Should We Retire Another Men's Basketball Jersey?
One men's basketball jersey has been retired, Steve Mix. Since we've been playing basketball almost 100 years, isn't it time that we retire at least another?

Some possible players:

Chuck Chuckovits
One of three UT All-Americans, and was named twice (1938-39)
Averaged 17.2 points over his career, an unheard of number in his era
Played professionally in the forerunners of the NBA

Bob Gerber
A two-time All-American (1941-42)
Set a national scoring record as a senior
Played professionally in the forerunners of the NBA

Tom Kozelko
Only two-time Toledo MAC POY (1972,73)
Played before freshman could play on varsity
All-MAC three seasons
Averaged 20.8 ppg and 10.2rpg over his career
Third round draft choice of Washington (NBA); played 3 years

OK - UT no longer has an NCAA Div 1 wrestling program but that doesn't diminish what Wojo accomplished while he was there. There should be a jersey hanging in Savage that reads WOJO

Agree with Wojo recognition for sure. Not sure about hoop retirement. THere have always been an issue with the very early Rockets and their records. Max Gerber struggled with trying to put the early accomplishment in context. No extensive records and certainly no sports info office in those days. Most of what is avaialble comes from newspaper reports. All three are deseving. This site has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to all things Rockets.

Terrible idea. Second half of it is wonderful but I can't imagine why you want to take sports away. Let's just add wrestling. And men's track. And field hockey.

Field hockey at the HS level around here (those that play it) is not too bad--if you brought that program back, the right coach could keep quite a bit of local talent here and build a decent Div. I program...

I used to watch them back in the day. Great sport. Nowadays I prefer to watch the team from the Netherlands. Even when they're not playing.

All worthy of the honor. I would also include Ken Epperson who is the Rocket's mens career leader in both points (2016) and rebounds (960). I understand that he was eligible all four years and some others were not but I think you would be hard pressed to find a player at another school who has the records in both categories and does not have their jersey retired.

Or one with Epperson's work ethic. Guy drove me nuts though. He'd pass up open looks all day to get the ball in the paint. Can't argue the results. One of the first Rockets to really take advantage of strength training.
