We put 38k in Legion Field for TCU on a Thursday night.

Of course, we went to Tulane right after that...

This expansion is not about seating or attendance it about facilities

Only a few suites for the big dogs maybe 2 to 3 hundred increase

So the stadium will have locker rooms now? That would be a welcome change.

RE: NBR: Troy Stadium Expansion
We have had several crowds larger than their high attendance mark. Just imagine what we can do with a winning team? These attendance jokes get old.

This has been in the works a while. I have even talked about it here on this site. The same architect I have used on two projectors is doing it. (They did JSU) Our party from UAB was told about it when they toured the stadium when working on our preliminary schematics for an OCS.

FWIW North Alabama is also exploring the possibility of either building an OCS or going in with the city for a renovation an expansion of the stadium they currently use.

UAB has never put $25,000 into our stadium because we don't have our own stadium. Also an attendance joke. A double entendre. Clever if intended.

They averaged a whopping 600 souls more than us last year, coming off their 6th(?) straight conference championship, while we were coming off our 7th straight losing season.

Reverse those and we outnumber them by thousands, not hundreds.

RE: NBR: Troy Stadium Expansion
Yep,

That is why it galls me every time I hear a so called media expert say UAB needs to be more like Troy without having any facts to back it up. Usually they just make crap up. You reading Jon Soloman?

I also enjoy the double standard. Troy can draw an announced crowd of 11,500 (maybe a third of that actually there) and nothing is said. We can draw more than Troy's stadium even holds and we need to "shut down the program". They can all go jump.

Was talking to someone several weeks ago in the business community in Birmingham (This guy actually an Auburn grad) and the OCS came up he said "What does UAB even need a stadium for? They can't even get 5,000 people to a game." I asked him where did he get that idea from? He said the media, talk radio and tv. When I told him what we actually do draw he didn't believe me. He said "That is not what the media portrays" "That's not what they show on TV and not what the radio stations say". This guy is a VP for a local firm.

I'm sure several more have had that conversation. I guess that's why the attendance stuff gets old to some of us.

RE: NBR: Troy Stadium Expansion
To repeat what I've said before, UAB with its 7 years of losing records has MORE UPSIDE to offer when it starts winning consistently than does Troy which has been winning all along and has all the advantages we have enumerated over and over. Most criticisms of Legion field are about accommodations for FANS, not the factors with which the UAB FB team has to deal (except the hot water for showers). The field itself has never been a problem for our team. Troy right now is as good as it is going to get without a major coaching change.

WHEN UAB establishes itself in winning games, I expect people will turn out to watch it - YES, in LEGION FIELD - in crowds of 30,000 and more on a regular basis. Winning is the best marketing strategy, and UAB has not yet been able to try it.

BTW, because of the recent laws passed in the state legislature that will affect the SETF, I am expecting both BCS schools to be forced to not only raise tuition costs but to have to raise premium / ticket prices as well in the next 2 or 3 years. UAB will be at risk as well.

My apologies. Upon further review, I think my numbers reflect the end of the previous season.

Getting old sucks.

For 2012

Troy (5-7) 20,952
UAB (3-9) 15,271

Advantage, Troy by about 5,700.

I still maintain that if Troy sucked for has long as we have, and we have just a smidge of sustained success, and the numbers reverse by a larger margin.

Not to ding Troy (although I'm sure it certainly sounds like it), but UAB's top 7 attended games would not fit in Troy's stadium.

If we were located in Troy, Alabama and drew 500, I don't think anything would be said either.

No offense taken. We both have our issues drawing fans. I don't think either of us are living up to potential in terms of fan support. Troy with 5 titles should have drawn better. UAB is located in the nations #1 city for college football fans (google analytics). There is no NFL team in B'Ham either, though we're both competing with AU and UA. Troy's main drag as far as getting fans to show up is that stadium capacity is twice as big as the total town population. I'm sure UAB has its issues within BHam competing for Saturday night entertainment.

That, and being the "nation's #1 city for college football fans" doesn't have a lot to do with UAB football.

So far, anyway.

RE: NBR: Troy Stadium Expansion
Lets get this straight, once and FOR ALL. Marketing UAB FOOTBALL AT LEGION FIELD is a COMPLETE FAILURE, regardless of how many wins or how many faithful fans show up for every so called home game. You faithful fans who think that "winning games is the best marketing strategy" for substantially increasing attendance figures are wishful thinkers.

Troy is ALLOWED to construct and/or expand, without the approval of a governing board of Alabama alumni.

The ONLY effective marketing strategy for UAB to become permanently successful at substantially increasing attendance figures, is IF the Board of Trustees ALLOWS UAB to build a NEW ON CAMPUS STADIUM. A new on campus stadium will DEFINATELY attract more current fans, and a plethora of new fans, as well.

Stop beating around the bush.
