Spring Game
Just my opinion folks... I was very disappointed, there was no excitement from our first team offense. 2nd team offense had a couple exciting plays. Wilder said they would be sling the ball around a few weeks ago. There was no deep throws. The RBs need some work like always. WRs played good and our all american QB played good but was disappointed in the play calling. Defense looked good!

There was a couple nice hits too!

Sound system sucked.

Also a drunken lady sitting on the 45yrd line row HH pissed her pants twice, think I can still smell the odor. She had more crack than back. SMH

Keynote: There was no triple option

RE: Spring Game
When the offense and defense have been playing against each other for the past few months, the advantage is always going to go to the defense. They know al of the offensive plays and are familiar with the blocking schemes and pass routes. I wouldn't read too much into this game.

RE: Spring Game
I thought it was a pretty clean game, the defense kept the offense in front and wrapped up.

I took some pictures and humble tried to recap the game. Awaiting stats from Harry Minium.

Here's my humble breakdown for those who didn't attend the game. link

RE: Spring Game
Nice crowd.........Largest I have seen for an ODU spring game.

I was told they estimated the crowd at around 6,000. Maybe a little less, in my opinion.

Defense seemed to be more inspired than the offense. However, It was an enjoyable Saturday afternoon.

Not sure what was going on with the announcers. Started off with overhead PA from the press box, while at the same time was overlapped with announcements from the field, with Ted and Rich.

I’m looking forward to the start of the season.

RE: Spring Game
I would estimate the crowd at 3,000 - 3,500. In most respects it looked much like the previous scrimmages with the defense well ahead of the offense, particularly in the running game. At this point it is really hard for me to tell if the defensive line is significantly improved or if the offensive line has a ways to go. My instincts are that the O-line needs to pick it up a bit. Heinicke looked pretty sharp, and the receivers made some good catches and runs after catch.

I think I saw Shane McCarley on the sideline, but it could have been someone else. Whoever it was, he definitely had the McCarley haircut, spent some time talking to Heinicke, and did a little throwing on the sideline to pass time.

All in all, a good time, and maybe just enough of a fix to get me through to August 31.

04-cheers

RE: Spring Game
Shane was there with his dad, great guys very approachable. He's going to be a good one in a few years.

I though defense wasn't as quick as the other practices, they are tackling better this year. The offense has got some playmakers and they were making a few more plays today. The receivers were catching the ball better, but as was said not many were down field plays. Did see a TE catch a TD pass, thats a new one for ODU. Goodwin had a solid game out of the backfield playing with Taylor on first team. Lots of new faces, some of the JuCos are looking like nice additions.

Taylor looked very sharp today only a couple of drop passes and no interceptions. Vaughn and Larry were the best receivers today. On D, Darr and Simmonds were getting it done.

RE: Spring Game
Best hit of the day- darr on some poor receiver, really crushed him! Loved seeing the nice looking tight end make a catch! Often wondered why they don't throw to the tight end. defense bigger, faster. We need one or two more classes of big players to start being truly competitive, but looks like we're on the right track.

This was one solid hit, John Darr putting it on Blair Roberts

RE: Spring Game
Did anyone else notice QB Washington lining up as a wide out on at least one play? This kid has to much talent to be a back up QB.. I think he would work as a running back or receiver.

I agree. He definitely needs playing time. I'm confident Wilder will find a way to work him into the offense.

RE: Spring Game
From seeing Washington throw the ball, I think he finds another position. If he's at QB, it's just as an option/trick type play.

Im a little worried about our backup QB situation, but that's obviously not a huge concern right now.

I agree. Saturday was my first time watching Washington play and I did not see what all the hype was about. It appeared that he made the wrong read on almost every pass attempt. Hopefully McCarley will be ready to step in if Heinicke gets hurt.
