And late breaking news by JD (no, not about the Boston suspect)...

Quote:Joseph Duarte‏@Joseph_Duarte14m
University of Houston freshman third baseman Kyle Kirk, the Cougars' second-leading hitter this season, has left the program. #UH

Gotta wonder what the heck he did to warrant such an abrupt departure from the team (ala Derek Hamilton last year, but Kirk was having a breakout season).

Play Ball!

Byrd leadoff single!
Stringer opposite field single on 3-2 pitch. Runners on the corners, no outs.
Stainback first pitch RBI single! 02-13-banana Runners on 1B and 2B, no outs.
Aquino successfully sac bunts runners to 2B and 3B, one out. Not sure i would have wasted the out there, but well executed.
Cook RBI ground out. 02-13-banana Runner on 2B, two outs.
Ratterree groiund out to 2B.
Nice start!

Good guys take an early 2-0 lead heading to the bottom of the first inning.

So much for the early lead. Geez. And after the first batter, Jordan is falling behind in the count against everybody.

Jordan leaving ball up in the zone early and it cost him-- double off the wall, triple in the gap, followed by a sac fly ties the score. Offense better be ready to keep the accelerator down all night.

Hoelscher first pitch attempted bunt??? Bunts to pitcher for easy out.
Perrott flied out to RF.
Teykl struck out swinging.
Bottom of the order goes very quietly and quickly.

2-2 tie heading to the bottom of the second inning.

I was confused when I saw that on GT. First pitch, leadoff batter - odd choice.

2-2 heading into the third.

This has got to be the record for slowest crosstown-rivalry-in-big-3-game thread.

I don't think most of them are at the game. Disappointing crowd. Then again a few Rice folks have trickled in.

Thats too bad. I would think that this would draw well, especially since UH isn't a pushover this year.

Wish I could be there - Friday evening games happen when I'm flying home.

EDIT

Stringer grounds into a DP. Stainback singles. 1 on, 2 out.

Aquino KO's to end the inning. 2-2 bottom of the third.

Quick, bounce-back 1-2-3 inning for Jordan (strikeoutKK, ground out, foul pop).

Hoelscher might have been testing inexperienced 3B, as Kirk had started all but 3 games at 3B for the Coogs before abruptly leaving the program yesterday....but you need to bunt better than Shane did on that play.

Byrd leadoff walk. Well done. How about a hit and run here instead of the sac bunt?
Stringer grounded into a 4-5-3 double play. Ugh. Again, why can't we ever try hit and run, especially with a good contact hitter as Christian?
Stainback singles up the middle...unfortunately, our inability to get the leadoff runner to 2b once again cost us a run.
Aquino struck out on 3 pitches.
Some things NEVER change.

2-2 tie heading to the bottom of the third inning.

We did hit and run. They turned the double play anyway.
