Shelley Binegar has given her all to the program despite being asked to do the work of several people. To trash someone here is so easy when you remain anonymous. NIU has many problems and those that work there are trying to do their best to make the school a success. Disagree with them if you like, but do not post disparaging remarks with no foundation in fact. The internet is great for many things, but it also provides a forum for the ignorant and ill-intended with no risk of repercussions. If you love NIU, then show it by attending games, donating money and time, and speaking of your support to others. To tear something down on this board serves no one.

I've never had a run in with her, but for the people who donate and have had issues with her, they have every right to say anything they please.

+1

I've had issues with her. As has a donor I spoke to yesterday that doesn't post here.

She isn't trying anymore, she got fired. heard she was saying negative things to/about very high level donors, don't know how true that is though.

The Grays will have an appeal and may only be out for the upcoming summer.

If that is true, I hope the clean house in the Ath Dept. with the AD coming in. Backs up a lot of what people have said on here and should have been fired a long time ago if she is talking down to the likes of the Barsema's and Yordon's. I'm fine if they keep some of the people who have done a good job, but would rather have a fresh start.

Oh it's very true! I'm not posting unfounded rumors about anyone. If it wasn't true I won't have said anything. Her attitude has not been good with people that give back to the program for awhile. People can believe what they want, but I'll go with the truth in this matter.

RE: Basketball Signings?
I think Christian Spears purging the department of anyone who wasn't ALWAYS positive and supportive of donors, alumni and fans is a good start to his tenure. I have had nothing but positive dealings with Ms. Binger, but, the fact that a number (even a small number) of donors did not feel valued by her should be a major concern. Obviously, AD Spears took those same concerns to heart and made a move. It couldn't have been an easy move as they worked together for a number of years and, from what I had heard, were friends.

This gives me an encouraging perspective of AD Spears and his ability to make the tough decisions to improve NIU. I think he should be given a chance to run the show and see how it works out. The last thing NIU needs is any disjointed , lack of continuity with a new president coming in. I don't know that I yet trust, that a new Prez, with everything on his plate, will invest enough in a national search to get a better replacement for Compher than Spears.

I have seen nothing to suggest Monty is running the program un-professional or not first class! When you aren't winning, people pick apart everything. Many didn't like Binegar, but I felt she was very easy to talk to.

If that's what it was, it doesn't sound like something they'd get kicked out of school for. One thing I agree with though, if the players that a coach recruited are getting kicked out or are leaving on a consistent basis, that certainly reflects poorly on the coach.

I would think that 2 NIU students running around with anything that resembled a gun, then actually shooting people, would be taken very seriously.

I am not sure what bball players can and cannot do over the summer with the strength and conditioning staff. However, I have read comments by Monty that they (the Grays) both need to build strength and spend time in the weight room this summer. If they are off campus for the summer it cannot help and can only hurt thier strength and conditioning program.

Monty seems "snake bit", nothing has gone right for him in his first HC opportunity. Perhaps he will still get it turned around; I hope so as he is a likable guy and a person that I would like to see succeed.

While I realize their's obviously a "wrong place" aspect to it, kids shooting paintball guns really isn't the worst thing in the world. You'd hope they would understand what happened here and have some more tact and consideration for the environment they've entered, but they weren't in college at the time of the shootings here.

Sounds more like "kids being kids" than anything if that's all it was.

If you're running campus shooting things with a paintball gun, you don't deserve to get your school paid for. Kick 'em out. Maybe they are better suited to play for the club paintball team.

But what were they shoting? Buildings and people(on or off campus)? THe first of which could be considered vandalism. The second, just shooting people randomly with paint guns can be considered assault and both are probably qualify for getting kicked off campus-especially if the police were invloved.

One thing you can count on happening is the Grays being suspended, for the start of the season. Highsmith, Armstead, Armstead, Bolin and Pete as starters and Baker, Davis, Christian, Bowie and if he is here Mader as back-ups and Cravatta and Potnick as 3pt specialist.

RE: Basketball Signings?
does Monty have to recruit a different character athlete? Did we get a Nadar because other programs didn't want to deal with his attitude and monty took a flyer because talent level at NIU was so poor. When you are desparate...

The original comment is that they were shooting "things". I believe the paintball paint washes off fairly easily, not like the paint that's used for vandalism. It sounds like college kids having fun but the guns and masks in today's environment make it look inappropriate, certainly. I still don't think it's something they should get kicked out for, though Monty could suspend them or something, depending on the actual facts of the situation. We're just speculating here, it seems.
