Official ECU - Marshall 11-30-13 pissing match thread
Might as well get this thread started seeing as how every conversation seems to turn to an ECU vs Marshall argument.
Carden vs Cato
Sucky secondary vs Sucky secondary
New DC vs New DC
2011 Marshall sends ECU home at 5-7 in overtime
2012 ECU sends Marshal home at 5-7 in overtime
2013???? Seven and a half months of back and forth should lead to one hell of a game!

I would love it if both teams were 7-0 in C-USA play headed into the game.
Who am I kidding, I'd rather ECU have a 2-game cushion, lol.

This. Hopefully Marshall will oblige us.

RE: Official ECU - Marshall 11-30-13 thread
Sorry guys, we have had 11 practices so far this spring, I've been to 8 of them including both scrimmages - we will have a defense this year and the secondary will be very good. It's a whole new look, we will be starting 3 4-star guys in the D backfield - Thomas, CB Penn State transfer, AJ Leggett, RS Fr who was the #9 rated CB in the 2012 class, and Hunter, original UT signee who played out of position last year at LB and still made the freshman All American team. Add in that we get a 2 yr starter back that missed all last year and you have 4 new DBs from last year and each is an upgrade over what you saw last year.
To have a shot at winning the game you'll have to hold us under 28 points. If you feel you will have the D to do that then you have a shot. I know you'll view this post as hot air, but it will still be here and you can always bring it up if I'm wrong.
I've been watching Marshall football for a long time. I remember our 1999 defense that only gave up 136 points in 13 games playing in a pass happy league. This defense is more athletic than that group, but not as experienced. By the time we play you they will have a full season together and could be scary good.

So with that and Rick Smith @ ECU it will be a 7-6 slugfest?

Banker your posts have me excited, especially the fact in another post I believe you said you haven't predicted Marshall to do much in the last 5-6 seasons and were correct.
I hope you're right. After the end of last season I didn't want to read a Marshall football article. Now I'm drinking the kool-aide again lol.

This could be a fun post to watch, and I'm sure that both ECU and Marshall are hoping this game is for all the East marbles.
But note to Marshall fans before you get too excited about the last game of the season: Don't forget about Southern Miss, UAB (who beat us last year!),UTSA, MTSU, Tulsa (another loss, last year!), FIU and FAU. Before we ever get to ECU, we have to take care of business. I echo what I've been reading in Marshall Thundering Blog about the improvements in the defense, but no chicken counting!!!!

I stand by my "Sucky defense vs Sucky defense" remark. Practice and spring games are one thing, but playing against a live opponent in another. Every team's defense should look good going against the offense they practice with everyday. Six weeks in we will see how the defenses look.

Both teams will be 6-1 in CUSA play.
Marshall will absolutely destroy ECU dropping ECU to 6-2 and 7-5 for the season. ECU better not sleep on MTSU or they are looking at another Ruffinesque 6-6 season
Then youll get the annual Ruffin bowl implosion and go limping into the AAC @ 7-6 better yet @ 6-7
Ruffin will then have a losing record after his 4th year.

We have USM, UAB and ECU all at home. The games on the schedule I worry most about are MTSU and Tulsa on the road. If we were to lose to Tulsa it's really no big deal, we still control our own destiny in the east. We have to beat MTSU. I know they should be good and just don't know how their good compares to our good since I have never seen them play in person.

Ruffin has been a bad hire in my opinion.
19-19 doesnt cut it. ECU went downhill after Holtz turned the program around. It would be one thing if Holtz left the program in bad shape but you guys were coming off a CUSA title in 2008, beat Tulsa to start 2009 and then tanked.

you're not familiar with what we had returning in 2010. Holtz' rosters were stacked with defensive studs in the front 7. All of them were gone in 2010 and left us starting walk ons. He took a lot of chances in recruiting (when he did recruit) that didn't exactly pan out for Ruff. Our recruiting has improved tremendously under Ruff. I don't think he's a bad coach but I will say he brought in the WRONG DC. He's gone now and we'll see what happens next. The jury is still out in the Pirate Nation.
Regardless, this year is a big one for Ruff. I personally think a 10 win season is very achievable.
