UTSA

2013: Soza, then Carter or Conque.
2014: Carter or Conque
2015: Conque
2016: Conque

Carter is #2 but was injured for the spring game so no one has really seen him with the offense yet.

RE: How is your teams QB situation looking going into this summer?
Our QB, Cody Green who was about 6-4 and over 250 last year has slimmed down and lost about 10-15lbs. In the spring game he looked much quicker and had better mechanics. He is now very accurate on the short throws and looks more comfortable running the offense. This could be a breakout year for him and I think we'll see an increase in his passing completion rate.

There is a freshman named Dane Evans that will be a star in the future. He's the most accurate passer most of us have seen in a long time and runs the offense like he's been doing it for a decade.

Still have Heinicke. For us its more of a question of if the line is going to be able to keep the line.

Walter Payton award winner. Looking forward to seeing how he does over the next 2 years.

Back up QBs still are battling it out.

Marshall QB Depth

Starter: Rakeem Cato JR.... Started as a True Freshman.

Back Up: Blake Frohnapfel SO.... A very talented QB that will have more snaps this season.

Third String: Gunnar Holcombe RS FR....Talented RS Freshman, don't expect him to get many snaps unless Cato or Fro goes down.

Forth String/Red Shirted: Kevin Anderson FR...Talented QB coming out of Boca Raton HS in Florida, many think he will be the starter when Cato is gone.

USM -- unknown primarily due to defections (2) and lingering injuries. I'm thinking ---

Sloter - (only scholly not suffering through an injury rehab....still, he would definitely have been heavily in the mix to win the job with all QB's returning and none with injuries)

Weeks - (walk-on...scrappy, smart, good mechanics, 4' 9")

WinOrLoseEAGLE - (all desire (and belly and age) but not in the least bit athletic)

Ok - so the injured guys would smoke my ass even in their casts and wearing their knees backwards.

We have a couple of quarterbacks (Scotty Young and Ryan Higgins) with good skills, but ZERO experience. Should be interesting.

Austin Brown So played most of last year
Jeremiah Briscoe Fr (gray shirt) came in for spring practice
Johnathan Perry Sr We're glad he's still with the team but he's not a good fit for Mcgee's system. He probably won't play again except in a wildcat formation.

We had 2 qb's transfer out because Austin Brown beat them out for playing time... We had too many freshman qb's. Their names were Josh Greer and Ben Craft. We're sad to see them go, but understand that they wanted to play college football and not just practice.

we have 1 walk on and 1 Juco transfer that will never play and are there for practice. Hunter Mullins was supposed to come to UAB but So Miss offered more playing time and so you guys got him.

Why do you think he was offered "more playing time"? We had a coach last year who gave a QB playing time to sign him -- that didn't work out so well for either the team or the QB, or the coach (though that's up for debate as he got his full contract money anyway). Any coach even remotely worth his salt never promises playing time ... just the opportunity.

I'd rather not think about it. Hopefully Sloter can step up big.

We return Junior Rakeem Cato, who won league PoY honors as a true sophomore

And our backup, Blake Frohnapfel, would be a starter on almost any other CUSA team

3-year senior starter who is like having a coach on the field.

Back-ups are unproven.....so far. I wish I could make the spring game this weekend but my nephew is getting married.

RE: How is your teams QB situation looking going into this summer?
For UNT it's not as good as we hoped.

Derek Thompson will be a 3rd year starting senior. He showed some promise his first season but last year, outside of a good game at Kansas State, was not very good and really held the offense back. Derek, is big, strong, good arm, and throws a good deep pass. His accuracy on short/intermediate is very inconsistent partly due to bad footwork and throwing off his back foot. He's slow but supposedly has lost weight to increase his speed. He played every snap last year because there was no competition.

Andrew McNulty is a redshirt sophmore and currently 2nd team. Average arm but good runner. He played some as a freshman but looked like a wasted scholarship. He redshirted last year due to an injury and has looked much, much better in spring ball. If he keeps improving he has a shot at being a good player.

Brock Berglund is our transfer from Kansas who has all the talent in the world. Unfortuantely, he was injured for a significant part of spring ball so he's third team.

We do have an incoming high school quarterback who's a dual threat and has all the physical skills you'd want. I'm sure he'll be redshirted.

If Derek Thompson is our starter all season then we're in trouble. He's just not very good and we'll be lucky to win five games. I suspect Thompson will start our first game against Idaho but McNulty or Berglund will get some playing time. As the season goes along I suspect the rotation of quarterbacks will continue and Thompson will get less and less playing time if someone can step up and prove capable of moving the offense.

One interesting point ... our offensive coordinator wants to open things up and do more quarterback running. They have emphasized that all spring. They didn't do that at all last year due to Thompson's lack of running skills. They want to return to an offense that doesn't fit Thompson at all but does fit all of our other quarterbacks. To me it seems the coaches are making it very clear they want McNulty or Berglund to step up and take the starting job. I expect they'll have that opportunity in the Fall.

It's a crap shoot right now at USM. But with the new system, whoever does win the job, will inevitably have some success.

What a day! I will never forget my seeing my dad, who is nearly 70, jumping up and down on the bleacher when Danny Webster caught the tying TD.

Yeah, we're good at QB with Shane Carden.

We just lost Griffin (who is about to be drafted), bad, but we picked up an experienced Joe Montana's son as a transfer, good. And we have Devon Monroe.

So I think we're good at Qb for 2-3 years.
