Slighted....yet again
I kid with the thread title. Not sure if this has been brought up on here before, but I found this diagram online. It's pretty cool, with one glaring error. See if you can find where they put Ole' UAB.

To be fair, it isn't immediately apparent what a "Blazer" is, and there are a LOT of schools on here.
And if my MemphisBlazer history lesson memory is correct, there is a connection between us and that use of the name "Blazers".

Not sure why we are listed under Trail Blazers even though that is partly why we are called the Blazers.
I would think we would be under the Dragons or Mythical Creatures (even though I believe that dragons existed)

I think in the event of a tie as to the meaning the name, they went with the first reason or immediate reason. For example, Troy are the "Trojans" because it self-references the city of Troy. Although the logo and mascot are the Trojans of Greece, which would be what U. of Southern Cal is modeled after, it is listed as "self-referencing" because that would be the first reason.
The "UAB Blazers" first logo was an arrow, and if memory serves me right it was partly inspired by Portland's team. In that case, a "Trailblazer" is more accurate than a fire-breathing dragon because it is the first-reference and our Dragon is just a marketing rebranding.

I did notice that UT Chat. was left out of schools that have snakes as mascots. As soon as I said that, I saw "trees" and Ohio State is not listed with trees. Are any others missing?

Troy was actually in Anatolia (modern day Turkey) and not in Greece. It plays a major role in Greek mythology though so I'll let it pass. I think Troy state teachers college is actually listed twice iirc.
The Dragon was not put with the Blazers until much later. We had a viking, a chicken, and that pink thing as mascots prior to the Dragon .

RE: Slighted....yet again
Technically this is correct for UAB. Blazers was to refer to trail blazing as a new program. The original logo was supposed to represent a blaze that you might see on a trail. The dragon (mascot and logo) was adopted much later. Our campus tour guides are still referred to as Trail Blazers.

There aren't any errors regarding UAB as far as I see.
Same reason Alabama isn't listed under Elephant and Auburn isn't listed under Eagle. Those aren't the team names.
Blazers is our team name and refers directly to Trail Blazer. We are not the "Dragons".

I've always thought Alabama should wheel out a saltwater aquarium. No fish or anything. Just the water.
