1) It took me just 3 mins to find out about the outage.

2) Total outage time was just 30m (uptime prior was 285 days, which started after a routine reboot after major updates).

3) The cause was indeed a power failure at the datacenter. There is a UPS hooked into my server that should keep it running until the generators kick in, but that UPS is faulty and they're now going to replace it.

Glad you got your outage fixed so quickly, I am well aware that data center up time is not 100% and depend on similar backup systems here to meet SLA's with my customers...thanks for all of your hard work. (plenty of GT grads in the building here as well) Cheers!

I'm thinking I may use this offseason to move to a facility in Atlanta. Right now I'm at Corespace in Dallas. I have our former 1U ready to deploy, and if I move to Atlanta I will deploy it with the current 1U Twin. That will give me another pretty beefy apache node to alleviate load as well.

Nobody could touch what I was paying in Dallas, purely because it was an *ancient* contract they had to honor. It was 1U of space, 10mbit, no amp restriction ... $49/mo

I'm looking at a provider in 55/56 Marietta in Atlanta .... 3U ... 5 amp ... 10mbit ... $130/mo

I have a high power density since I use 1U Twins. The old 1U has high draw power sucking Opterons. I've put it on a kill-a-watt ... 220W peak. I'm GUESSTIMATING the 1U twin I have in Dallas is 300W peak (4 Xeons with 80W TDP). My next upgrade is putting the old Opteron out there with the 1U twin. After that another 1U Twin ... looking at current Sandy Bridge EP Xeons the 6-core chips are 95W TDP (and the 8-core chips are way too freakin' expensive.) So ideally I'd have 3U of space (current 1U twin + old 1U + "dumb" gigabit switch for interconnect traffic) and 6 amps power upgradeable for a reasonable price and 10 mbit upgradeable for a reasonable price.

At the provider in Atlanta I can get a half cabinet (20U) with 20 amps and 50 mbit for $450/mo. So once I start getting close to 7 or 8 U it becomes more beneficial to just get the half cabinet.

If you can beat the price for what I listed in ATL my ears are open... but a prerequisite if I'm going through the hassle is it must be no further away from me than Atlanta/Charleston/Raleigh/Knoxville. So Dallas is out. Also, I REALLY take enormous personal offense to being taxed on my server in Dallas as business personal property tax. F*** you Dallas... you don't own that server, and I'm not leasing from you for the "privilege" of having the existence of property in Dallas County for business use.
