Zag guy sounds like a douche canoe and Larry couldn't handle CUSA with only Memphis.

This. SMU could join the ACC and he could still figure out a reason to leave. Not even getting into his unbelievable number of NBA moves, this is a guy that has willingly left *both* UCLA and Kansas at the college level. Brown is a masterful coach, but his M.O. has always been about being a turnaround specialist (much like Bill Parcells was in the NFL) as opposed to a long-term program builder. In this case, the composition of the AAC would have little to do with Brown staying or going.

Brown is *72*. Do you really think he's going places after SMU?

No, his comment was directed at what he sees as the impending decline in AAC basketball (the definite loss of Louisville), and the likelihood that the other flagship power, UConn, could leave as well.

Take away UofL and UConn and there isn't much left of AAC basketball.

It has become clear to me that Brown will be coaching until his last breath. Otherwise, he would never have taken the SMU job at 71 years old in the first place. If I were in his position at his age, I'd be living in Maui and playing golf everyday with his buyout money from the Knicks and Bobcats, but he legitimately doesn't want to ever stop.

Some folks value their ego over relaxation.

Larry Brown is a has-been. He is lucky they will not be playing those other teams. They couldn't even win in the old CUSA.

I suggest you win some ball games Larry and you will get all the notoriety you deserve in whatever league you are in.

Spoken like someone who has no clue. Larry didn't have a recruiting class last year and we played with only 9 scholarship players available. The depth issues cost us several games. This year will be different.

Where did he say SMU was a basketball power. And a Tulane fan taking a shot at SMU is pure gold.

And who caused those depth issues of which you speak? That's right; Larry Brown did. He cut guys like Samaripas when he first got there and then later on Brown latches on to the excuse of not having players.

Brown has doubts about the American? Thats great, cause most teams in the American have doubts about Brown and SMU. Maybe they can prove eachother wrong?

Samarippas should have never been on scholarship in the first place. We needed his spot for transfers. The fact is that Brown did the smart thing by sacrificing last season in order to get talented transfers in who will be eligible to go this year.

The point: You can't judge Larry Brown by last season's results. We weren't going for a conference championship last year - we were building for the future.

Agreed, but that is different from saying he will take another job after SMU. Physical and mental degradation will preclude it. If only SMU wants him at 71 who will hire him at 75?

Losing Rutgers & Pitt in BB ... addition by subtraction. And when was the last time ND did anything significant in BB?

Not sure what you're smoking here. Pitt has missed the tournament once since 2002, won two Big East tourneys in that period, and won four regular season Big East titles over that span. This league would benefit tremendously from having Pitt basketball.

Also, ND has made eight tourneys in that span, and they're a recognized national brand with a huge t.v. following, even in basketball. That being said, I don't think they're worth the price of admission because of their stance on the football side.

They are always one-and-done in the NCAA tournament. No one cares about anything else.

And what championships has ND won as a member of the Big East?

Those are both straw man arguments. The question was whether losing Pitt was addition by subtraction. They're in the tourney every year and unquestionably increase the basketball profile of the league. Same with Notre Dame. Are you seriously telling me we're better off with ECU and Tulane than Pitt and ND?

Larry was going to be a short term fix at SMU. He is 196 years old. Odds are he won't see 200.

Look up the term carpetbagger and you'll find a couple of Browns referenced - Larry and Watson.
