RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
The important thing for Joe is to stay on a team. If he is at WR, then maybe he gets more touches.

RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
I've always wondered why this hasn't happened sooner. Just about every single scout said he was a fantastic athlete who would need to convert to WR in the NFL. I don't blame him for wanting to try the QB thing, but from an early stage, it was obvious the Vikings weren't ever going to use him there. I hope he keeps his work ethic up and does everything he can to become a solid WR. He has two things(size and speed) that can't be taught, so learning how to run routes should be his largest hurdle.

The main thing is that he gets the $$$'s.
It wasn't Joe who decided to try the QB thing, it was the Vikings making that decision.

Yeah, I want him to get his $$$ too. Hopefully this will prolong his career as well, and make that pension check better.
And I don't believe the Vikings were the sole decision maker in Joe playing QB. They may have suggested it and he agreed. They may have asked, and he may have preferred QB. But I don't believe he said I would like to play WR, and they said no, you are what we want at QB.

RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
they needed a backup qb for Favre, T jack and then Ponder... it would have been another waste of a draft pick to move him to wr and need a new QB. He is in the Vikings mind a quality backup but not a starter. I promise you that Joe does a lot of zone read, etc. for the Scout teams the weeks they play a mobile QB.
He is a great athlete but it would take a lot of training to turn him into a WR when the vikings didn't need one and needed backup QB's. Harvin is gone and they are fine with Ponder, who did enough to get them to the playoffs with AP rushing for 2000 yards. They now need WR's because they have nothing in that position.

RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
Which WR's did the Vikings have since Joe has been there? Free agent, veteran QB's are all over the league(and at home) that are capable backups.
Percy Harvin led the Vikings with 677 yards last year. Nobody else had 500.
The year before Harvin had 967 and nobody else had 500.
The year before that Harvin had 868 and Schiancoe had 530 as a tight end. Nobody else had 500.
The whose who of Vikings receivers over that time included Sidney Rice, Bernard Berrian, Michael Jenkins, Greg Camarillo, Randy Moss, Devin Aromashodu, Jerome Simpson, and Jarius Wright. I could easily argue that WR was a huge problem during this time span.

They are a run first offense. In that style you only really need 1 deep threat receiver. Why would you ever throw the ball when AP gives you 100 yards a game?

Oh I don't know. Why even have any receivers at all if that's the case? Why did Seattle feel the need to pick up another solid WR? Why has San Francisco tried to find more guys? A balanced offense would make AP even more productive rather than a who's who of Harvin, who is fragile as can be, and this collection of receivers. The Vikings mishandled Joe from day 1 in my opinion. But they have mishandled a million other things in that time span.(the biggest of which is drafting Ponder way above where they should have) I've felt bad for these QBs in Minny because the talent they have been surrounded with has sucked.

I blame the Vikings.
Joe didn't ask to play QB. Minnesota asked him to. Hell he'd have played right tackle if they'd asked him to.
Quit pissing away that kind of talent because you can't figure out what the hell to do with it.

Vikings haven't been worth a crap since they moved indoors. Bud Grant and frozen tundra forever! Since they moved indoors they haven't been to Super Bowl to lose.

RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
It's about time. Like someone posted above, I hate that they've wasted time that he could have been developing into an elite NFL receiver having him as a back-up QB. I hope he gets a legitimate shot to make it at that position, because if he does get a shot, I think he has the potential to be a great pro WR.

RE: Joe Webb back to WR?
Well considering the vikes have lost all their good WRs over the past couple of years, it doesn't surprise me that they're possibly going to do it. I think it's about the only way he's ever going to get good playing time while the window is still open on his career.

No good QB's, no good WR's. The track record isn't that great.

Well, with Harvin gone, Webb is probably the best WR on the Vikings.
