I hope we don't run someone off....maybe we have a player struggling academically, or one looking to transfer?

Is there a way to give a player other types of scholarships? Academic, etc?

Only if you deny an academic scholarship to a more deserving student. It wouldn't be the first time.

edit: I wasn't trying to judge the academics of the kid being recruited. Maybe he'd be deserving, I have no clue. Or maybe his family (lottery winners) is willing to pay his way.

Maybe he doesnt need a scholarship - his dad won a $45 Million powerball jackpot back in 1994. Maybe that's why JMU wants Gill... get some donor money!

RE: Gill, Benedictine
If you read that article I posted from the Times Dispatch, it says something about Gill's father having won a lottery. Didn't realize it was that much. Gill's father also has ties to Ralph Sampson, who's from Harrisonburg, of course (also mentioned in that article unless I read it someplace else). Maybe they could recruit him as a walk-on with the possibility of earning a scholarship down the road. I've read Selig's tweets about this kid and we had posted this same article and video of him. What seemed surprising, though, of course, was that someone on these boards reported that Brady was at Benedictine last week recruiting a player. That would be uneventful, except for the fact that the player is a 2013 player. Moreover, he went to the trouble of also bringing Assistant Coach Phillips with him. While this player is certainly an intriguing prospect and the type of player that Brady likes, I'm in agreement with BSKB24 that players shouldn't be run off the team (although I know it happens...just look at article on Jordan Anderson in today's paper). Not fair to the kid or his family and perhaps creates some discord with the remaining players on the team.

Charles Gill Sr., who won a sizeable chunk of lottery money in 1993, is also former owner of the Richmond Rhythm of the International Basketball League in 2001.

The Rhythm, who played at Richmond Coliseum, was coached by former University of Virginia 7-foot-4 All-America Ralph Sampson.

“I was just a little kid and I remember sitting behind the bench and thinking what a giant he was,” recalled L.G. Gill of Sampson.

Other possibility, of course, is they don't bring back Semenov.
