I like Nike too, but Nike is everywhere...could be interesting to see what someone else would offer to differentiate us from others...I don't like what Russell has done with most of their new stuff GT unis are hideous.

Adidas and Under Armor could be interesting though...

Does anyone know how this stuff actually works? Do they pay you and provide uniforms? Or is just extra cash because you buy from them?

I think we switched from Adidas to Nike fairly recently. I worked with the sports medicine staff and there was some old Adidas polos and shirt stored in the closet that we weren't allowed to wear for obvious reasons. I can't see why we'd have them unless we had a contract with Adidas before.

If you sign a contract with a provider, obviuosly, it depends on the terms of the contract. But, most apparel contracts cover all the sports in which that provider makes uniforms/equipment. For example, if you sign a deal with Adidas, you will get basketball, football, soccer and others cover, but not baseball. Adidas does not make baseball equipment, so the baseball team would be able to shop around for their own equipment per the terms of the contract with Adidas. From my limityed knowledge, I think, Nike makes equipment/uniforms for just about every sport.

Terrible merchandise distribution (only find it online ... even then team issue polos don't last long). Some of the stuff is terrible quality, particularly the jerseys which have the stupid melted plastic crap for the numbers which doesn't make it through but about 2 or 3 washes before it starts disintegrating (is a sewn or dye sublimated number so much to ask??). But GT uses them because Russell is HQ'ed in Atlanta and now that everybody has fled to Nike or UA ... GT is Russell's "showcase" ... so GT gets a ton of money from them.

The classic look is VERY nice. I didn't think the middle ones were all that bad- a little stripe heavy. Those last ones- yeah, those are not good.
The honeycombs kind of look like bubble wrap haha.

Football had Russell jerseys through about 2004, I believe. I think we went to Nike after we won the championship.

Basketball had Reebok when Lefty was still here because they offered him a better deal than any of the other brands. I've still got a bunch of that gear. At the same time, the women's team was using Nike. I want to say that the teams actually switched when Bud and Dillhole took over - the men got Nike and the women actually went to Reebok.

Branding tends to be sport-specific put together by the coach, not the school. At least that's how it used to be.

Please Lord no. What Addidas and Under Armour are putting out there these days is gross. I would hate to end up like another Maryland. I don't want a single change to our uniform. It's a nice, clean uniform that looks like our guys are there to play football, not get into a Power Ranger battle.

anything BUT Underarmour! Can you imagine that God-awful Maryland crazed look overblown with the purple and gold?! Please no. Russell sounds fine to me - we can use the bucks and Nike is way overdone, In my opinion.
