Yeah, I was hoping he'd account for all three outs that inning. No disrespect to my favorite Houston street's namesake, but had Kirby done that, it just means we would've sent 19 batters to the plate. As it is, we sent 11.

B8: Byrd goes down quickly on a pop up to short. 1 down. Stringer up.

And Stringer down. Strikeout. 2 outs. Here comes the man of the day, Michael Ratterree.

And Ratterree grounds out to short, his first out of the day following 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, and 2 RBI. On to the ninth. Owls up 7-5. 3 outs to preserve our 20-year unswept streak at home (and probably keep our CUSA hopes alive).

RE: UCF @ Rice (Sunday, 4/14/13)
T9: One Knight up, one Knight down. Hoelscher with the grounder and throw to first. 2 OUTS TO GO!

Fox induces another grounder to third, Hoelscher fields, and Hoelscher throws! 2 outs! 1 OUT TO GO!

Base hit for UCF brings the tying run to the plate. Will we see Lemond? Or will Wayne let Blake go the distance here? There have been 4 homeruns in this game, mind you. Quatro.

And a double for Vasquez. Knights on 2nd and 3rd, tying running in scoring position. And up comes Hempe who blasted a HR back in the 6th. Gut-check time, Blake. Let's do it.

Fox goes right after Hempe and quickly gets him 0-2. Then a foul ball. Still 0-2. Come on, Foxy. And now a pinch-runner for Vasquez at 2B. Another foul. And another foul. A SINGLE back up the middle, past Fox, past Stainback!

One run scores. 03-hissyfit Next runner is...OUT! He's out! Tagged at the plate! OWLS WIN! OWLS WIN! OWLS WIN! (and my pacemaker stops...) Owls win 7-6. OMG. Another routine game at the Reck...

+1! Keep it going guys, continue to make me look like an idiot for my prior comments! 04-cheers

You will not look like an idiot due to your prior comments. Regardless of what happens in this game, many or all of the previous comments are spot on. Thus far, we have not resembled a championship/elite team. And barring a complete turnaround (which of course is always possible) we are in danger of not making the post season. This one game does not change that, regardless of what happens. This is taking a long view rational point, not being swept up with the particular emotions of the hour.

Not sure we got him at home, but I'll take it. Really couldn't have been any closer.

Play at the plate for the game!

Stringer throws out the runner at home and Rice wins by 1.

Apparently Rooney finally got to have some fun this series.

Close ending, but a W nonetheless. Well done to avoid the sweep.

Wow, obviously Lemond wasn't available after his work yesterday. Fox is ok in short spurts, but gives up quite a few hits and it nearly did us in there.

HOWEVER, the boys dug deep and made enough plays to get the win they had to have and avoid the sweep. HUGE week coming up with 2 against Tech and then the big 3 against UH. Get your rest guys. And we've got to get our pitching squared away ASAP.

Wow, did anyone see that last play? I thought he would be out by ten feet but the throw came in high and the cacher had to go up for it and then come down to get the sliding runner. I immediately thought he was out but then I saw the dugout reaction from UCF and I don't know what they truly saw. I didn't notice Stringer picking up the ball. I thought it was Byrd. Somehow we managed to save one game in the series and not get swept at home. I still think he was out - legitimately. Glad the call went our way.
