Yay! now one for two, 50%. My questions, what are the normal success rate for Rice and college teams overall, stand. Not asking you personally, smackdaddy, just throwing it out there in the hopes that somebody knows or is willing to do the research for lazy ol' me.

For what it's worth, like most Owl fans, I'm totally in favor of sacrifice bunting when it leads to a run and totally opposed to it when we fail to score. :)

Nah, I'm pretty supportive of it. I hate giving up outs, but with these new bats, our frequency hitting into DPs, and the propensity for defensive mistakes by college players (especially as pressure increases--i.e. Lively's wild pitch in the 1st with Stringer on 3B), I generally support sacrificing to get a runner from 1B to 2B (with 2-outs or less) and to get a runner from 2B to 3B (with 1-out or less). There are always exceptions, of course, like when a pitcher can't find the strikezone and keeps walking or hitting batters, or when Anthony Rendon comes up to bat. :)

It really does seem like we hit into a lot of double plays. That is one of my main reasons for wanting to sacrifice.

Yeah, I think that may compound the factors why we don't attempt steals much. I suspect our team speed is a little slow. Hence why there are more sac bunt attempts than steal attempts. I am a little curious why we don't hit-and-run more often; anybody know? Anybody ever heard Wayne talk about that little stratagem?

Most? Should be all.

My position exactly. Just wondering what percentage of the time I'm for it and what percentage I'm against it.

RE: UCF @ Rice (Saturday, 4/13/13)
HAHA! Rooney goes Billy Martin on the homeplate ump after a HBP is ruled NOT a HBP (batter dipped his arm into the pitch). They re-pitch. Then Jordan walks him.

EDIT: Then an error by Hoelscher puts runners on 2B and 1B. First baserunners for the Knights in a few innings. Only 1 out.

EDIT: Uh-oh, another base hit and UCF loads the bases. The runner thought about testing Ratterree's arm, then decided against it. Let's see how UCF handles a runner on 3B with less than two outs.

Stuff like this may be why we don't hit and run so much:

EDIT: Byrd lines out.

EDIT: Stringer grounds out.

EDIT: Ford grounds out.

Ugh. 4-4. UCF crushes a ball to the LF wall. Two runs score. Runners advance to 3B and 2B. Still just one out. Here comes Lemond. Need to shut this down ASAP. We probably just facilitated keeping Lively in there for another inning or two.

Then a wild pitch scores the Knight from 3B. 5-4 UCF. :(

EDIT: And a base hit scores another. 6-4. Now Jordan Stephens on the hook for a potential L. Tough luck. He was cruising there for a few innings. Now we've gotta come back on the conference's top pitcher.

Luckily we have out up 4 runs already.

Maybe out offense can keep a little momentum going the rest of the game.

RE: UCF @ Rice (Saturday, 4/13/13)
Byrd snares the final out and stops the bleeding. UCF up 6-4 after a 4-run inning. The only good news is that we started with a 1-run inning, then UCF had a 2-run inning, then we had a 3-run inning, then UCF had a 4-run inning. I'm no Fibonacci, but I'd say we're due for a 7 or 8-run inning or something...

Cook singles, then takes second on a wild pitch. 1 out. Ratt up.

Ratt smacks one deep to LF, but it sounds like the wind hangs it up and it results in a simple F7. 2 down. Need a hit here by Fox to get Cook home from 2B.

From what I am seeing and have seen, I think our streak of conference championships is in jeopardy. The game is not yet over, but ..... And UCF is mediocre. We still have to play Memphis and UH.

I am not sure having the CUSA tourney at the Reck will save us.

Lemond gets the Knights 3 up, 3 down in T8, and the Owl bats have 6 more outs to tie this series up. Need 3 runs here, fellas. Let's do it!
