3 fraternity/sorority houses on the agenda for UA. Noticed they do not have funding source on agenda...

In $$$$, what is the present cost per credit hour of undergrad and grad courses at UAB?

To be honest UAB's medical school tuition (instate) is competitive with other schools' instate tuition, especially with the primary care ranking.

I'm fine with the tuition increases as long as they translate into better facilities, and we have seen facilities upgrades.

South's tuition is still lower, but honestly I haven't met many people accepted to UAB and South that picked South.

BOT Meeting Agenda for Today & Tomorrow
I recently read a study that called Greek housing the worst financial investment a college can make based upon ROI.

That said, it's illegal to use state funds for their construction, maintenance or operation, and that includes tuition dollars.

What are the chances that if it is illegal, the BOT would carefully avoid doing it? RIGHT!!!

At UA "the Greeks" probably still run all social and political functions of note on that campus (unless such things are very different from the past) so they are "inside looking out" rather than the opposite like most students. Most BOT members from UA were part of that culture.

Oh, they won't use state funds. They'll use cash flow generated at UAB to back the bond issue instead.

Just read the annual financial reports of each campus. They are audited individually. Also, listed in those are different bond issues. They are issued in the name of the individual campus (like "UAB Series 2013A" etc). The way the budgets work, the money for each campus stays on each campus. Some money does go back up to the System Office to pay for that office's operations, but that's it as far as UAB money going to Tuscaloosa. We've had this discussion on this board many, many times. Pretty much every time a frat house at UA comes up on the Board agenda. I hate UA and the Tuscaloosa bunch as much as anyone, but they are not stealing money from UAB.

Witt now pointedly identifies the UA System as UA-Tuscaloosa, UAB, UAH, and the health system - 4 legs rather than three. If that is true how is the "health system" treated, based on this conversation.

The Health System has always been separate from UAB as a university, but the President of UAB is the Chairman of the UAB Health System Board so it's not like they're doing the bidding of Tuscaloosa. It's not some change since Witt took over

First the UAB school of medicine is considered a part of UAB for this discussion.

However the health system is a separate entity from UAB. They have a separate governing board which a majority is appointed by the BOT with the rest appointed by HSF - the foundation simplified is the docs. Carol when a big battle when she got appointed the chairman

This probably a good thing since the health system has the lower ratings due to old cash reserve problems and uncertainties in health care. The best is probably now UAT - Moody's loves growth

the attitude has changed a lot since I was at uab 84-90. at that point there was a three year waiting list for student housing and the bot approved building housing but refused funding. we may ***** but as bad as things are they used to be worse

RE: BOT Meeting Agenda for Today & Tomorrow
As it stands now, UAB gets pretty much anything they want from the Board as long as it doesn't involve the football program
