RE: Your Memories at JMU
Riding the drunk bus, losing my balance (shocking), falling into an extremely hot girl, appologizing, then making out with her and taking her home. My friends were in shock, I just called it an epic Saturday night.

Also, Chattanooga, Appy Game, Chanellos, Bikini clad chicks on the quad, pickup basketball games at UREC, and meeting my wife and a bunch of ex-girlfriends.

RE: Your Memories at JMU
Hard to put them all down, but I'll try.

Athletics:
JMU beating ODU's women to end their triple digit CAA winning streak. I was listening in my car and made it to convo in time to watch the second half.
National Championship
VT Win.
We had a comeback win against Richmond - I think it was in 2000 - where we were down 21 in the second half and Jabarri Outz (RIP) went off. I was in the first row of the student section (I think we had stopped calling it the Zoo by then) and it was unbelievable.
Does anybody else remember when we pulled off the kicker falling down onside kick ('98, I think)? I hated Alex Wood, but that was one of my favorite football moments while in school. It's sad, but that really was a highlight of my entire four years of JMU.
Dayton this year.

Social/Other:
Music major and MRD, so most of mine revolves around that.
Multiple pep band trips to conference tournaments and WNIT.
MRD Monaco trip.
Chanellos - that place was like crack.
This is not a common JMU experience (I don't think), but me and a buddy would always go to Mr. Gatti's for Monday Night Football. It was great, we were the only ones there and there was a huge big screen TV...

EDIT: Almost forgot the pickup games at UREC...blow a whole Saturday, got get Chinese, and watch basketball all night...

Cortez Thompson punt return vs. Delaware in 2004
2004 National Championship and the bus trip we took (brought back some Chatty Turf)
2008 vs. App, Richmond, and Montana
VT Win
Going undefeated 2 years in a row in intramural soccer

Kegs in Potomac Hall my freshman year
Watching the sunrise and/or sunset from our roof top at 1053 Southview, 360 degree view of The Valley
Camping at Flagpole Knob
$1 rails at Highlawn and $2 pitchers at Dave's
Going to "The Tower" at midnight on a Tuesdaybecause I lost a bet, then getting the truck stuck in the deep mud and taking 3 hours to rock it out
Drink 'til you Drop Tuesdays
Spring Alumni Weekend in Forrest Hills (better than the Fall parties)
Graduation and cracking beers in Bridgeforth during the ceremony
I might have gone to class a time or two

Hungover Sundays watching football and gorging on the all-you-can-eat pizza buffet at the now defunct Mr. Gatti's.

And another vote for the Steve Hood game. Most incredible ending to a basketball game I've ever seen in person.

The entire 2008 football season, really. My senior year. Thought it was our time to take the ship that year. Went to every game except the Hail Mary at Villanova and the Maine game. I think I went to every game besides those. Being in the crowd for the Richmond game can't be topped.

Yes. I was a freshman in high school & came to that game on a school trip. Still remember it well.

RE: Your Memories at JMU
I had a lot of great memories, but one that always sticks out is I remember sitting at a football game either me fresh or soph year, it was raining, hardly anyone was there (I could only find one other person who wanted to go), but I still had a blast cheering my head off. It's one of those stories I will tell my son when he goes with me...one of those, "well back in my day" types.

My fraternity, Pi Kappa Phi, and being the first ones to live in the new frat houses on Greek Row.

Beach parties in the middle of the winter on Newman Lake.

So many memories, many of which are not mentionable in a public forum like this. Maybe over brews at a tailgate sometime.

Man, so many Pi Kapps on here I never knew about. Let me know next time you're on the mainland, brother!

I remember a beast named Chancellor Nichols breaking the stansion that held the backboard on a dunk one night. Lefty had brought him in from Miss St. as a transfer. To think we actually brought kegs up into our suite in Hanson through the basement- awesome. But I am still blown away by the view of the mountains that surrounded me as I stood on the hill by d-hall.

It seems like JMU basketball took more of the spotlight than football back then. I also miss seeing the mountains, they have a nice view now at the East Campus Library.

I believe we beat Navy twice while I was there, but of course they probably were the worst 1A team in the country at the time. The fb team was inconsistent during those years too. I lived with fb players and remember a basic lack of discipline and consistency that seemed to come down from the top. Purzicki (sp?) and Rip Scherer were the head coaches during those years I believe.Plus, we were not too many years removed from Camponelli when I was there either.

They did, in '89 and '90. It was even less common for 1-AA teams to beat 1-A programs at that time, but Navy wasn't very good. I was at both games (MRDs) and winning in the face of all the pomp and pageantry of a Navy home crowd was pretty awesome, even if neither team was a powerhouse.

I remember how the Convo rocked for some of those Lefty games, and the disappointment of losing to the #7 seed one year and the #8 another year in the conference tournament.

I remember smuggling kegs into dorms in the village. I briefly dated a girl who lived in Wine-Price, and remember having to check in at the front desk so she could come down.

I saw Dave Matthews a couple of times at Trax in Charlottesville, and a couple of more times at Joker's in the 'Burg- just me and 20 or 30 of my best friends-and was working at WXJM when he came and played at our show at the PC Ballroom. Working and DJing at the radio station was a ton of fun.

I could go on and on- pulling up to Hojos and filling several trashcans full of ice for parties at Hunters Ridge, MRD trips. But all this warm weather is making me pine for sunning on the Quad?

Fondest memories would have to include:
Many trips up to the GW Nat'l Forest to check out/ make new trails with my friends in a 1979 International Scout.
The first warm day of spring on the quad or Hanson field
Updrafts hitting a dukette just right when she's wearing nothing under her sundress
Playing football for Rip (especially, the 1994 season)
JM's
Gus's/Dave's (at the first location) $1.85 pitchers of Beast Light
The walk of shame on Sunday morning (participating or mocking)
Hojo's breakfast buffet opening at 4 am after a night of drinking
Reading Day Eve, epic party night

Yes, we did the ice thing at HoJo's quite a few times. amen to the quad. it's got to be rocking today.

As an actual student, for me the entire 2004 football season. That was my junior year. Seeing football really start to "matter" with the student body was a fun process. Watching us go from nobody on campus caring my freshman year, to packed tailgates in the Hillside and baseball lots, was magical. Getting a chance to see your school win a national championship in any sport, as a student, is a very special experience. I'm glad I made the trip to 'nooga.

That was my senior year and it is like I can play back the whole season in slow motion in my head. I was at those terrible games my freshmen year when nobody was on the student side. To see it grow and feel a part of it was very special. The bus trip to Furman was awesome, that William and Mary night game. That season truly forged the bond I have for JMU to be as strong as it is.

I'm too lazy to go back to see who wrote about the Alex Wood onside kick, but I had a comment about that. Just to show how inept a coach Wood really was, he put in the 3rd string QB on the next play and he proceeded to throw an interception. Wood just HAAAAD to play a guy that wasn't ready and as a result there went the momentum we had form the first half and built on with the kick.

I did have the pleasure of seeing Eriq Williams play. Williams was a dual-threat, reasonably accurate and a very good rushing QB. I think he may still hold JMU's all-time records for total yards and combined TDs, and in 1990 he led the team in rushing and passing yards. We used to compare him to Randall Cunningham. Those '89 and '90 teams were only fair, but he had a great season in '91 when JMU made it to the second round of the playoffs.

RE: Your Memories at JMU
Fall 1996 - May 2000 for me...

Football:
1) Being able to grab a 50 yard line seat 5 minutes before kick-off from Freshman thru Junior year.
2) Tommy Maddox interceptions. We felt so bad for him. Not sure if he was bad, or maybe we can blame it on Alex Wood.
3) Finally getting good crowds senior year, then the crowd messing up the timing and rushing the field with 3 seconds left in the Richmond game that clinched the playoffs.

Social- I was in Pi Kappa Alpha, so many of my memories involve that:
1) Mixers at Melrose. For those who never experienced this I can't ever hope to explain it. For those that did, no explanation is necessary.
2)We stole Linwood Rose's inauguration cake while the speeches were going on. I have a great picture of the cake after we ate some of it (it was placed on a beer pong table with a couple of 40's next to it).
3) Partying at ZTA or TriSig for Homecoming, since our house was off the row.
4) Greek league intramural sports on the terrible turf field behind UREC.

Other:
1) The same exact mix tape playing in the weight room of UREC for all four years. "I like to move it move it..."
