Great news! Can always use more top-notch talent at the most important position on offense.

Kiel bonded with #UC OC Eddie Gran and QB coach Darin Hinshaw, Schad reports. Kiel would become eligible in 2014 #bearcats

Competition breeds excellence...should be a heck of a QB race next season between Kiel, Coney and Norvell.

Woo hoo! Can never have too much talent, especially at QB. Should be an interesting battle between Kiel and Coney.

Why would a Coney, who's been here and working and improving, transfer simply because a guy is transferring into the program?

Agreed. Coney seems like a leader with confidence. Based on what I saw from Saturday, it will be Kiel fighting to catch up to Coney next year.

just wondering as an NIU fan what qb's do you currently have and what year they are? Im guessing your qb is a senior because im sure kiel wants to play right away in 2014

Excellent news. And will bring some good exposure to the program over the next 24-48 hours as UC is discussed as a destination and Tommy T's immediate impact on our recruiting. Hopefully a few other high level recruits take notice (particularly wide receivers). Gotta get the talent level up for when we go to get a win in the Big House in 2017.

Our starter and backup for 2013 are both seniors. Kiel will be in competition for 2014 with two RS Freshmen (currently) who have yet to take any game snaps.

Thanks HoopsJunky I would of liked him to come to NIU since Lynch is a senior but he must of loved something at cincy. Good Luck

Source: Gunner Kiel picks Bearcats
Updated: April 10, 2013, 2:10 PM ET
By Joe Schad | ESPN

Former Notre Dame quarterback Gunner Kiel plans to transfer to Cincinnati, a source said Wednesday.

Kiel recently visited Cincinnati, Ball State, Miami University in Ohio and considered visiting Ole Miss this upcoming weekend.

Kiel also looked into Kansas State and Mississippi State.

More on Notre Dame football

Notre Dame Everything Notre Dame football, from recruiting to news to game coverage, is available from ESPN.com's Matt Fortuna in his Notre Dame football blog.

Kiel, 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, was one of the nation's most-recruited players after a stellar career at Columbus East High School in Indiana.

After high school, Kiel committed to Indiana, and then LSU, before settling on Notre Dame.

But redshirt freshman Everett Golson won the starting position and led the Irish to the national championship game last season.

Kiel has developed a good relationship with Cincinnati offensive coordinator Eddie Gran and quarterbacks coach Darrin Hinshaw, whom he had known.

Cincinnati has two senior quarterbacks, Munchie Legeaux and Brendon Kay. Kiel will have three years of eligibility remaining and said he wanted a chance to compete for a starting position in 2014.

The Bearcats plan to use a pro style, multiple offense that should suit Kiel's strengths. Cincinnati probably won't run as much zone-read offense as some other programs are currently using.

Kiel's addition is considered a coup for first-year Bearcats coach Tommy Tuberville. Kiel grew up in Columbus, Ind., which is about 90 miles from Cincinnati.

Huge pickup for UC. The kid has all the talent in the world. And as I've said all along he is the perfect fit for the type of pro-style offense Gran is going to be running.

Fantastic news.

Amazing how the Bearcat football has risen in the last few years.

Time for us fans to fill the stadium for every game. Time for a season ticket waiting list with thousands of names.

Time for every Bearcat fan with young ones to bring them to a game or two!

It's a nice talent addition, but I still have reservations about him. Guess we'll see how it works out.
