What a dumb***. ODU has JMU where they could crush them but is giving them a helping hand. Sounds like some stupid crap Holland would do.

I think it's just a gesture to insure the two programs maintain a good relationship. ODU knows they won't be approved over other schools, so there really is no harm in pushing for them in the media.

The most glaring downside to adding JMU, would be that UAB would still have to slide to the West. I go back to the old Sunbelt days when ODU/UAB had a very heated rivalry and I would like to see that resume. However, the divisional alignment would basically only affect FB. If BB continues the round-robbin scheduling, it wouldn't matter which division UAB were in.

.

exactly right. no one does divisions in basketball anymore. the Big East made up its schedule every year based on who they perceived to be good and to maintain rivalries as best they could.

divisions are strictly for football to create division "winners" and hold a title game.

so all the concern from UAB fans about losing their basketball rivals/comrades is unfounded IMO. They'll still likely get to play the schools they most want to.

No there will not be any shocked CUSA fans. Commissioner Banowsky and the Presidents cannot possibly shock any further. Hard to believe that Slive used to be the Commissioner of CUSA; and now Banowsky holds the post.

Nonsense. In a 16 school conference, you only get to play Home/Home series with 1 conference mate. I'm all for staying at 14 and making an 18 game conference season i/o 16. Then there would be 5 home/home and we can get the ODU/UNCC/WKU/UAB thing going again .

Why would ODU care if there is a good relationship?

ODU does. That's why they are pushing for us.

and the ODU-JMU end of season game would be probably the most heated game and biggest rivalry on the CUSA calendar.

OK and again... Football drives the bus as well as divisional basketball games could easily be a reality.

Aside from GMU, any of those schools mentioned has made more money in basketball over the last 12 months than any CUSA V3 school has made in football over the last 12 months. Yes, football on average makes a lot more money and drives the bus, so to speak, but there is a lot of money in basketball as well.

Hindsight being 20/20; CUSA should have ran to the alter to do that merger with the MWC. The remaining CUSA schools should have paid whatever it took to get that done; even if it meant giving up one of the automatic bids in basketball. That would have been much better than what Banowsky and his cohorts have subsequently pushed. The shocking part was that CUSA and the MWC were serious about that merger and it would have been 16 schools. That could have worked and it would have been better than what Banowsky is pushing now.

I am only in favor of 16 teams if both new additions in the west. If UAB is going to be west either way then I would rather stay at 14. No to JMU.

That however, would mean one of the commissioners losing their position, & we know Banowsky wasn't having that.

Please. The only thing these schools make money off of is students.

Percentage of budget from student fee's
ODU 73%
VCU 80%
GMU 82%
JMU 83%

VCU, GMU, and JMU all ran 1 to 2 million dollars in the red as athletic departments even with the highest student fee's in the nation. VCU's budget outside of student fee's was about 3.5 million dollars. Please don't pretend that they are some thriving money making machine when they have among the weakest budgets in the entire nation.

Dont know but its hard for any school especially the small ones to operate with title 9 being thrown in their lap just sayin. I am not tallking about student fees Im just talking about its hard to make money unless your Texas etc. I will admit thats alot of student fees for athletic budget but some have to do what have to do

You missed my point. My point was that the power schools used to complain about all the Mid Majors moving to DI in basketball. They said it was a travesty and that the Mids would never compete. I listed a number of examples that proved them wrong.

I believe the same thing is happening now with FCS move-ups. Elitists say they will never compete. IMO, "never" is probably about 3-4 years for the cream of the FCS crop.

This isn't India. We aren't doomed to remain in the caste in which we were born. Everyone has aspirations of bettering themselves.
