That's the way he has looked every time I've seen him.

Why is that sad...if you project those guys out 3 years, the freshmen and sophomores have higher potential than a lot of the seniors you see in this event. Professional sports don't draft for the next years, they draft a guy for what he can be several years down the road.

Talent trumps "readiness" every time.

Which is why there are usually several bust in every draft class and second round steals.

He led all scorers despite not having Top 12 minutes.

You can always find individual examples in any sport. However, that's not the norm. That's why you call failed first rounders "busts" and surprise second rounders "steals" or "gems".

I went to the game tonight and it was pretty fun. Here is a little bit of footage of Kemp and Paul that I apparently shot on my toaster oven.

Dwayne Davis
7 of 12 17 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals

DeShawn Painter
7 of 11 16 points, 6 rebounds

Game 2 Box Score

On par with DeShawn's season. Decent showing, still lost. Not to kick the man while he is down, but he sure was a disappointment being an ACC transfer into a CAA school. He was expected to be the next Frank Hassell and just floundered for an entire season.

It is sad, because most of these freshmen and sophomores end up going right to minor league basketball, which is where most of their careers will pretty much fizzle out. This isn't baseball, where you are drafting a guy for some point down the line; because you know that he has to learn all of the ins and outs of his trade. In basketball the pro coaches used to count on players being NBA ready when they came to the league; which means that the guys were physially ready to play and they understood the game, because they had typically been taught the game by a college coach.

To me that is what has changed in basketball and now the game at the highest level is suffering from these kids lack of basketball knowledge and of basketball acumen. I honestly don't even see how the scouts can project out on these underclassemen anymore anyway, because most of these guys can't shoot, dribble or pass; much less understand and appreciate the subtle things in the game. The pros don't teach that stuff, so these guys have to hope that they pick up on this stuff in D-League or in clinics.
