UL would be interested in joining CUSA
Written by

Apr. 9, 2013

Reacting to a national website story regarding potential Conference USA expansion, UL athletic director Scott Farmer said Monday that the Ragin’ Cajuns have interest in joining a 16-member C-USA.

“I think the number of teams isn’t as important as the teams we would compete against,” Farmer said. “We want our athletic teams facing the best competition possible.

“Yeah, we’d be interested. Yes. I would want to look at division alignment and dive into that, but sure we’d be interested.”

UL officials have worked quietly the last year-and-a-half to study, and position themselves for, a possible conference move.

Another program I'm really excited to play. Tailgating in Lafayette sounds like a blast.

Wow...there has to be little to no solidarity, at all, with this membership. I guess perception is reality...

Hopefully our administration puts us out there in the very near future. I don't care if we're 15th or 16th in, but I just want to make sure we're in.

I'm going to take those statements as, "We've already got a deal and invite in hand, just waiting for that anouncement". No one in their right mind would make a statement like that concerning their current partner schools without an already existing exit plan.

ULaLa, it was nice being conference mates, enjoy the second coming of the SBC that is C-USA.

This really sucks if UL and stAte leave. Probably means our block against the Southland is over too. Sickeing really.

I agree with you, but I really wouldn't put it past our AD to do something stupid too.

RE: UL would be interested in joining CUSA
Looks like the conference will now be ULM, Troy and a bunch of teams that were playing FCS a year ago. If Troy can't run away with the conference title in two years it may be time to replace Blakeney.

I can't wait for a SBC champion Idaho to go to the New Orleans Bowl....

At this point schools are not even hiding the fact they want out. I think everyone knew WKU wanted in CUSA but I also believe you didn't see anyone from WKU pimping that in the press. I may be wrong but every comment I read from WKU stated the SBC was their home but when or if the time comes WKU will do what's best for WKU, right now we are looking at all options but are happy to be in the SBC.... Or something like that.

I see ULL is taking the muts approach of going to the press to state their case.

I just find it funny that the guy felt the need to voice that opinion.

I mean, it's common knowledge (I believe) that any school in the Sun Belt would be stoked at a CUSA invite. Same as it's pretty clear that most all of the CUSA teams would be stoked to get an invite from AAC/ACC/MWC.

But why bother saying it? I don't see the benefit to making that sort of public statement.

What do you want our AD to do? We just revealed a comprehensive athletics master plan, and are in the process of securing funding for it. I think the message we relay to our boosters is more important than conference realignment etiquette.

Backfill with Liberty, JMU, and Lamar? SHSU isn't ready. Much rather have Missouri St. But they aren't ready either. All I know is USA, TXST, and GSU would be ready to flee as well. Troy would hope someone with a brain would see their history and not location. Bad all around. Attendance will take a strong hit at TXST without UL and stAte.

It's funny how the ACC is already getting lumped into the Gof5. It won't be long before that conference is eaten by the Big 12 and Big 10. Notre Dame has done everything in their power to stay out of the Big 10, but it can't be more the 3 years away now.
