Spring Football
Just wanted to get this over here. All this conference talk has negated all talk about the actual football team. If you already haven't, you should check out his video of MM and his impressions so far of the team.

To me it sounds like Birdsong is going to have a lot of work to do, but of course, the offense is new, so it's not a shocker.

I feel like we're going to have some serious growing pains this year under the new offense.

MM is openly talking about a transfer QB coming in- it almost appears that there is not a clear #2 QB. does that seem odd to anyone else, or am I reading in too much? LT has been the #2 RB this spring instead of QB. I assume he has his eyes on the "transfer" QB. What the heck happened with the kid from K state 2 years ago anyway?

He transferred to JUCO and I think is getting ready to transfer back up to D1 at K. State again.

He transferred because we ran the spread and he was more of a drop back passer. I never understood why he cam e here in the first place.

That being said, it can't be worse than last year's old offense! There were so many debacles last season, but the "ODU go for it with the same play 3 times in a row" did me in. I was frozen and suffering from the biggest buzz-kill in history as that game slipped away. What a horrible end to an otherwise stellar day spent on Godwin field.

Maybe. Although if they become a turnover machine it could be equally frustrating.

No, I definitely agree that there needed to be a change tot he offense. The growing pains to which I refer, go more to the personnel we have. To run the type of offense we are now running, we are going to need bigger, stronger receivers. The WRs are actually going to have to get use to catching balls rather than blocking on most plays. Our O-line is going to have to get use to pass blocking a whole lot more and run blocking less (this is what concerns me the most).

Billy Cosh transferred from JMU to Butler Community College after the 2011 season. After the 2012 season, he committed to Houston. So if you're keeping score at home, that's K-State, JMU, Butler CC and now Houston.

Good points. I look at a guy like Daniel Brown and see him as that type of receiver you describe. He was a beast at QB in hs (like a lot of guys at this level) and showed great athleticism and leaping ability as a basketball player too. Under-utilized has to be a word to describe him so far. I assume he will be ready to go. Maybe a guy like Ian F. will fit into this new scheme well as an athletic, big TE who can catch and block?

As for the line, they seem a little undersized but also athletic. Perhaps this type of scheme will accentuate their athleticism and footwork? IDK

I agree Daniel Brown can be that guy, but how is he going to look after that bad injury last year? I'd love to get an update on how he's doing. I'm guessing he's not playing spring ball.

RE: Spring Football
Fridays Practice ; Lafonte did not practice . He has a yet undetermined injury to his calf or achilles. He was not walking around very well. I did not see Andre Smith, Simmons is still out. I did not think the the O line played well and the receivers had trouble getting open. Take away Daniel Brown, Barlow , Robinson and Hunter , that is a depleted receiving crew.We need Hunter back at WR and get that transfer QB here. With this spring practicing at QB , Hunter would be a great emergency QB. I really like Deane Cheatum. I think he has a chance to be our best full back since Chris Iorio.

That's a strong compliment for Cheatum. I'm looking forward to seeing him play in the Spring Game now.

Well, Robinson could have been back...

Have you seen Coble out there?

Coble played really well on Friday. He probably had the best day of all of the receivers.

RE: Spring Football
It's pretty disappointing that Lafonte has never really been healthy for us, and it doesn't look like he'll be this year either. Hopefully the transfer QB we're going after is a #1 kind of guy and not just a backup. Birdsong needs competition. The turnovers are definitely a concern, but the good news is that he's going against a very good defense. It's not like he's facing a mediocre squad picking him off multiple times. Hopefully this challenge will make him even better at his decision making process.
Good news is that it's only April- still enough time to improve.

RE: Spring Football
might be tough to talk a transfer into the #2 gig. why would he transfer here just to be a backup when he could go to a different FCS school and play right away? we have a great FCS program, but an FBS transfer is likely going to expect to play (right or wrong, that's going to be the expectation). Cosh sure didn't stick around for long.

You know Mickey would tell any transfer that he would have a chance to start. And, Mickey would mean it!
