Just thought I'd throw in GA State ranked at #403. JMU's at 157 by the way.

I recognize there is very little we folks at Liberty can do to change the minds of some. I personally feel our views are misconstrued by many and the bigotry charges are unfounded. For the record, College Republicans aren't recognized on campus at LU either. We have moved our focus significantly away from politics in the past decade.
And consider me as someone who would love to be in the same conference as the Dukes. But I get the feelings of many on here otherwise.

I bleed purple but have done grad work at LU. Most of the people I run into are gracious and kind. At least people know what LU stands for up front; I have a greater problem with the indoctrination that takes place on many other campuses. but again, when one goes to a public university or bastion of liberalism like our friendly college in Williamsburg, what can they expect? My greater concern is our lethargic performances so often against Liberty in athletics! I am hoping you do not have anything good to talk about after tonight's baseball game. But I certainly would not put $ on the Dukes if I were a betting man. In addition, LU puts their $ where their mouth is when it comes to facilities. They are making great strides in that area.

Personally, I'd ally with anyone who would get us into FBS and step over the dying corpse of anyone who stood in our way. Kidding (/slightly)!
Seriously, I understand the issues some have with Liberty, but I feel like to the extent those are real problems with the school's actions, history, or public perceptions, they are Liberty's to deal with and would not be a hindrance to anyone in an athletic conference with them. I can appreciate not wanting to even be in the same conversation as those issues, but to me Liberty is committed to improving both its academic approach and its athletic department. It's got scads of money to spend on each, a burgeoning profile due to the online school, and the potential for publicizing itself and its conference mates via its network in a way that could be a powerful help in the future, and having Liberty in the conference helps with travel costs for Olympic sports. The only thing I wonder is if, in the future, some schools will simply refuse to play Liberty. The controversy over that would make them unsuitable as a conference-mate.

JMU FOIA request by Liberty fans
Why is there a stigma associated with the liberty online degree program versus any other online degree program?

I guess I never really understood the academic argument when it comes to athletics. But I guess, it could be because of recruiting. Those schools who are less academically prestigious are able to recruit players that are slightly better, even though their grades aren't that great.

Story has been updated, no e-mails from Bourn, but a couple from Sunbelt.

Sounds like Mr. Bourne was being smart by not replying by email. Obviously he called back if several emails were sent.

Well, it is certainly interesting that one of the e-mails from Benson was basically following up saying "just wanted to make sure you got the e-mail I sent."

Maybe it takes Jeff a few days to actually get the email. I am sure we have extensive spam filters that carefully "monitor" every email thoroughly.

I wonder if they only did an FOIA request for documents related specifically to Liberty and/or the Sun Belt. Perhaps a more general FOIA for all FBS related documents would be more interesting to us.

Nah, they had just upgraded to FBS. They've had football awhile. I probably shouldn't have included them as an upstart.
"Awhile"? Yes, I would say so...if starting play in 1904 qualifies as "awhile"....oh, and a program with 2 National Championships to boot. Man, you talk about an East Coast myopia.

RE: JMU FOIA request by Liberty fans
FOIA probably wouldn't turn up anything useful other than fake documents with an announcement about moving to the SEC for the poor sucker who thought it'd be worth anyone's time to file an FOIA about this. As dumb as everyone thinks Bourne and company is...they're not going to leave obvious tracks in their JMU accounts or other easily associated accounts.
