MyBB WBB: Dukes host first CAA game vs Hofstra (Friday, 7pm, MadiZone)
The Good Gals welcome the Pride riding a 4-game winning streak. Hofstra opened their CAA schedule at home last weekend with 2 losses to W&M and Elon. The Pride are 5-8 overall on the season.

The Dukes have moved up considerably in the RPI, now sitting at #64. Warren Nolan's RPI site predicts the Good Gals will end the regular season with a 25-4 overall record and 17-1 in the CAA.

With the humongous game coming up on Sunday against Northeastern (12-1/2-0, #25 RPI), JMU must avoid looking past the Pride and continuing to do the little things that have them on this winning streak.

The game will be streamed live via MadiZone. Incoming snow storm could affect the crowd on Sunday so hopefully folks can and will get out Friday night before it all rolls in Saturday.

Go Dukes!

Always good to see Coach Krista bring her Hofstra team back to visit. I am confident our stifling defense will keep Hofstra on their heels and it should be a comfortable win. Keep Devon and Kayla out of foul trouble and we should be just fine.

I echo WP's comment about the importance of Sunday's game. Northeastern is playing better than I have ever seen them play and they pose a formidable foe to the Dukes. I believe we will win, but I think it will be a close game.

Crown Club will also be doing signups for the bus trip to William and Mary on Sunday February 24 and to Towson on Sunday March 3. Stop by Doors A and B to get more information. We will be at both doors on Friday and Sunday this weekend.

Side note, Kenny Brooks' Hokies appear to be a broken record. Each of the last 2 seasons they have torn up the pre-ACC schedule only to melt once the ACC season got going. This year, they opened with a perfect 13-0 record and some quality wins.

But then, the ACC schedule started up. They lost tonight at UVA to move to the basement of the ACC at 0-3. (and UVA is not good)

Now, they get to host #1 Notre Dame and then travel to undefeated NC State. The ACC is absolutely loaded. Hokies are looking at a likely 0-5 start to their conference schedule.

Bummer for Kenny.

Saw they lost by 4 to UVA after getting outscored 28-9 in the 4th quarter. Ouch! One of those losses was on the road to #14 Syracuse- they lost by 2 in OT. Hope they can pull it together and reel off some wins.

Btw, didn't realize that Kenny now has 2 daughters on the team.

If the team struggles this season, how much is he actually in the hot seat? He got paid a lot of money by Tech and probably not meeting the standards they expected.

None. They made the WNIT in his first 2 seasons and likely at minimum will again this year. Just in his 3rd year and is recruiting well. Major rebuild there. Whit Babcock should and likely does realize this. VPI&SU was generally viewed as one of the bottom 2 or 3 programs in the ACC before Kenny's arrival.

Last time VPI&SU had a winning record in conference play was 15 years ago in their last year in the Big East before joining the ACC. Since then, most wins they've ever recorded in ACC play was/is 6. In the 9 years prior to Kenny's arrival, the Hokies won a total of 26 ACC games (average around 3 a season).

I know their team was in massive rebuild mode. I just wasn't sure how much pressure he would be getting from the admin. He definitely deserves the time to get it turned around.

Good Gals started a bit slow tonight but got hot down the stretch of the 1Q. Dukes up by 5 at end of 1Q.

Dukes are dominating. Good Gals won the 2Q, 23-4. Up 40-17 at the half.

Potential upset brewing at Towson. Kitty Cats are up by 7 over Northeastern late 1st half.

Dukes win rather easily.

Towson just defeated Northeastern at home. This moves JMU and Towson into a tie at the top of the CAA with 3-0 records.

Elon defeats Charleston...W&M defeats UNCW.

CAA Standings thru Friday games...

T1. JMU 3-0
T1. Towson 3-0
T3. Northeastern 2-1
T3. W&M 2-1
T3. Elon 2-1
6. UNCW 1-1
T7. Charleston 0-2
T7. Drexel 0-2
T7. Delaware 0-2
10. Hofstra 0-3

That game was more like a floor fight than basketball some of the time! I wasn't impressed with some of the play of a couple of the Hofstra players, especially the tall skinny Finnish girl Kalin and Brozoski. Brozoski has a habit of dragging one foot that is just short of a travel, or maybe is.... But anyway, the Good Gals won.
