Dish vs DirectTV vs Comcast
Had it up to HERE with comcast after several months of badly malfunctioning cable and being lied to repeatedly by inept reps about when it will be resolved. Uverse isn't available in my area so that's not even an option. What are the pros and cons of each service? Is one overwhelmingly better?

Just TV I think. Unless the internet is much better than comcast as well.

I've only had DirectTV and Comcast. Of those 2 DirectTV is far better IMO. More HD channels, better picture quality and the DVR is superior.

RE: Dish vs DirectTV vs Comcast
My extended family has Comcast and Uverse. I have Directv (DTV). I can say easily I am more impressed by DTV. Customer service is better, from what I can tell (I have gotten free stuff for just calling and threatening to cancel the Sunday Ticket). The picture quality of Comcast pales in comparison to the HD with DTv. From what I can tell, Uverse may offer more channels at the base package, but again, the picture quality isn't as good.
Now, that is different if you are looking for cost. DTV is way more expensive (I pay about $100 a month for the mid-range package-about 150 channels, I watch maybe 30, about twice that have interesting programming, the rest is just filler- and HBO channels, along with HD in one room, HD- DVR in another, and SD box in another, as well as insurance and stuff). Comcast and Uverse are cheaper, but my mom (Uverse) says that the cheaper prices are temporary teaser prices that go up after a trial period. Also, for now, only DTV has Sunday Ticket (which may not be the case after next season), which is why I got DTV in the first place. When I am paying for Sunday Ticket (6 months a year), that adds $30 a month to my bill. So, I'll admit, DTV is expensive, but compared to what you get with other syterms, I'd say it is worth it.

I've only had DirecTV and Dish because of living in a rural area. I would take DirecTV over Dish any day. Better service, more HD channels, and they were able to give me the local Memphis channels before Dish.

RE: Dish vs DirectTV vs Comcast
I'm cutting the cable this month. Using a Roku for internet TV apps and HD antenna for local channels. I might get a TiVO box to record some of the stuff from the local channels. My DirecTV bill is $100 a month and the service has been good, I'm just tired of paying $1200 a year for 20 channels I actually watch semi-regularly. Summer TV sucks anyway. The only downside is live sports on non major network channels. I guess the pub is always an option to watch the game.
