It better! Hopefully that was a top priority for UT in the negotiations.

RE: Cullop Signs Contract Extension
On the sports on WNWO tonight, they said that she'll get a $10k raise every year. They said she's currently at $250k per year, so $10k per year would mean she would make $340k in '21-'22 (final year of the new contract). I gotta imagine the buyout will be pretty high for the next fews years since there are currently 9 years left on the contract.

And hopefully the contract is SIGNED, since Steve Alford and New Mexico had announced they AGREED to a 10(?) year extension, but then a couple days later he went to UCLA before he ever signed the extension at New Mexico.

Signing a long-term contract means nothing in big-time basketball. It only protects the coach not the school. The new school will just pay the buyout penalty if they really want the coach. On the other hand, if a coach tanks, the school has to pay out the complete contract unless other provisions were agreed upon.

I thought she was at 278k right now?? Well anyway $250k plus 50k bonuses isn't bad for a MAC WBB coach and I sure hope it is enough to keep her here for awhile. She is worth it IMHO.

If/when she does leave, it doesn't matter who pays the buyout (the new school, or her), all that matters is that UT will get a good amount of money if she leaves in the next couple years. Having a good sized buyout might scare a few schools away because they wouldn't want to pay that much, or it might keep Coach C from leaving because she wouldn't want to pay it the new school wouldn't be willing to.

The contract extension is only for one extra year (see the Blade quote from 2 years ago). I know that the 278K number came from the Blade's survey of UT salaries. Not sure that's correct. She was at 193K two seasons ago (see below) which is her base, or what they would have to pay a coach that is let go with time remaining on the contract. Add in other guaranteed money (marketing etc.) and you may add another 30-50K. Then she will get money for a division title, MAC title, advancing in the WNIT, attendance and team goals like GPA.

Mr. O’Brien told The Blade that Cullop’s new contract would run through the 2019-2020 season and increase her annual base salary from $180,000 to $193,600.

That's from the extension she got after '11 and the WNIT Championship.
