Where do you belong?
As one GaState fan recently stated:
"The day we realized we were not a fit in the Sun Belt."

Ok GaState fans (and other Sun Belters) where DO you belong?

Since you can't seem to get comfortable anywhere, where would you be comfortable?

I'm cool. I don't like that everyone wants to dip out of the Sun Belt. That scares me. That too many people will leave and we'll be left playing football with Liberty.

I was excited about playing MTSU, WKU, FIU, and FAU so it sucks they are no longer part of the league. We made a couple of good additions. I'm excited to play GS and Appy(Sorry, Texas State, you're too far away. Still a solid addition). If any of the others I was ready to play leave, stAte, UL, ULM, Troy, USA, then I'll be even less excited about playing in the Sun Belt.

Like I said though, I'm cool with the Sun Belt as is. Problem is, it won't be staying as is.

Things will always change in college football.
Glad we are here and want us to make a name in FBS.
Happy to do it in and for the Sun Belt if we can.

Georgia State has issues. But there is no reason they can't overcome those issues.

It'll take a couple of seasons for sure(and maybe a new administration behind the football), but we'll be competitive. This coaching staff has made a real effort to stick to the Atlanta area in their offers and interests which is already a huge upgrade. Keep the kids that want to stay at home. I'm excited about what Trent Miles is doing.

Their attendance should at least increase well with GaSo and App State in the same division. If we both play at GaSt in the same year those years should help. Sounds like they have a head football coach now that can get some good things done there, and should be able to sell their location.

Ga St also has Troy and South to come to town that will help their attendance. However, when you are talking tens of people that show up for Ga State, not sure if there is a whole lot of help that can be given. They are going to have to prove to me that they can sell that program in the ATL.

As far as I am concerned, I currently happy with the SBC, I really like the adds of Ga Southern and Appy St for football. My basketball acceptance is another story.

Hoping we can surprise you in basketball soon. Will not bore you with details, but we have had some pretty good basketball coaches in the past and if we do not have a good season this year you will not see that coach when we start SB play.

Their attendance has looked no worse than some of FIU's games and Georgia State has been playing nobodies mostly. They will be fine.

We are down in basketball, but we have had good teams before, so there is hope. According to the ESPN historical ranking of all NCAA programs, we are tied for fourth in the conference with a large gap to the fifth program. So, statistically speaking from a historical perspective, we actually improved Sun Belt basketball.

Where do you belong?
Ideally, I prefer to be in a conference with...

Louisiana
ULM
Southern Miss
UAB
Tulane
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
Troy

A few other schools in this general footprint -- like Arkansas State, Memphis, Rice -- and I'd be ecstatic. This is also complete wishful thinking.

So I'm happy in the SBC, but anxious about it because so many of our members are obviously unhappy. The SBC has decent football, at least on par with C-USA. Baseball is very good. But for hoops, C-USA is just a lot better. If SBC could return to mid-major status in hoops, the race for the exits might stop.

This is the conference where Georgia southern belongs. We are 10 years late to our own party, but we finally made it. There is no real reason to change conferences at this point. The group of 5 conferences are all generally equal now anyway.

App basketball is an odd animal. We have had some good teams in the past, but have had trouble keeping any momentum. I don't like to bash our coaches, but it certainly appears that our current coach was an experiment gone horribly wrong. He will coach the team one more year, but unless there is a miracle it will be his last. Everyone is hoping that we can find that coach to lead us to the next level. We have the facility and I think we have the fan base waiting for a reason to get excited. They've just been burned too many times in basketball.

Just my opinion, but I think that, without the SBC move, App would have made a change this year. As it is, we had other financial priorities, and it does look like a good basketball recruiting class, so we'll see what happens. Let's keep out fingers crossed. We all know that basketball needs to improve.

Yeah, I agree that Georgia State's attendance will increase when they and South Alabama start posting more Ws, both will be OK. The Jaguars really needs the OCS to draw well consistently.

No problem. I'm somewhat knowledgeable about the Sunbelt and CUSA and I have trouble getting exited for anyone east of Louisiana so I can only imagine that the average fan will think of an SBC schedule. To answer the original question either CUSA or the AAC would be good for TxSt, mainly because both those conferences have Texas schools. Our attendance would improve by 3-10,000 by no other reason than being in those conferences.

without having football my school uta is not a valuable add to very many conferences..maybe mvc or mwc would work but none of those schools are close to us.I think sports commitment wise we fit in the sun belt ok because we have good baseball and basketball is getting very competitive. we are making facilities upgrades and getting rid of coaches that didnt win..that has not happened here in a long time. university wise we probably match up better with the c-usa schools because at 34,000 enrollment and located in large metro area we have a lot of potential and with large schools of nursing and engineering and architecture and a first class planetarium and nano-fab lab and robotics institute and good aerospace engineering school we have a lot of stuff going on academically..just not so much for sports yet. I think our fans are glad to see us in the belt just dont think utsa and untexas should be ahead of us in anything.
