Wow. I thought the UTSA article was rather spot on. Both the good and the bad seemed accurate, and not just cut-and-paste "impressions" that the writer has heard through other "sources". I'm going to have to spend the time and read about all the other C-USA teams.

Good read. Thanks for posting.

FAU was spot on as well.

Great job by them.

SB Nation is really setting itself apart from any other blog site and better than most "sports news" sites, as well. These have been real in-depth and read like the author(s) actually know what they're talking about, which I believe my conference brethren can agree is somewhat rare for teams like ours.

We officially join 1 July 2013. Just 80 or so days from now.

RE: C-USA Football Previews from SB Nation
They are doing the previews worst to first. Means the first preview is expected to be the worst. Was wondering why I hadn't seen any expected to finish in the top half of the conference yet. Reading the teams previews you start to understand why they rated each from worst to best.I would expect Rice to have been rated up one or two places though.

I read the MT article the other day. It's quite good. Surprisingly so.

Expect the next four to be:
USM
La Tech
Marshall
ECU (ECU or Tulsa interchangeable)
Tulsa

Well, the entire LA Tech article is about USM.

Skip Holtz isn't the greatest, but comparing him to Ellis Johnson is just low. I'm thinking Skip must have snubbed whoever wrote this article somehow.

Actually, the author stated up front that it was probably an unfair comparison.

VERY unfair.

Ellis Johnson's career:
Gardner Webb: 5-6
The Citadel: 12-22
USM: 0-12
Total: 17-40

Skip Holtz's career:
UConn: 34-23
ECU: 38-27 (2 CUSA championships)
USF: 16-21
Total: 88-71

Read it with your head and not your heart. Unfair to compare Johnson and Holtz, yes - and it was stated as such. But he wasn't comparing those two specifically, he was comparing schools gaining a measure of success with a high octane offense only to lose their coaches and replace them with something quite a bit more defensive minded. THAT's the comparison the writer was trying to make.

He needed to look a little deeper. Tech was high octane in only 1 of Dykes's 3 seasons (2012). We won the WAC championship in 2011 by playing good defense. Plus, 95% of the players that made us high octane last year have graduated. It was a lazy piece all around.
