Did you realize that new USC coach Andy Enfield
was a shooting coach for two NBA teams. I don't know what his background was that would have qualified him for that position, but I didn't even realize that pro teams had shooting coaches.
Maybe we should try and hire one of our former recent unnamed players who is living in an unnamed Northeast Arkansas city, to join our staff as a shooting coach. He might be able to really help players like James White and Stetson improve their shooting, and teach Ben Dillard how to get his shot off quicker. Just a thought. O.K. Let's see how long it takes to get a response from MJS,InsideUALR and EH198.

RE: Did you realize that new USC coach Andy Enfield
Every pro team has a shooting coach. Some teams have multiple shooting coaches, which they may have one dedicted to one player. The current most famous shooting coach is Chip England with the Spurs. He has improved several player FT and 3 pt FG % for many years. In college, the NCAA caps the number of assistant coaches for a reason. If the big college programs could hire several assistants they would and have an even bigger advantage. That's why a lot college players get drafted on potential because they can develop them with the staff available to them. It usually comes down to players with raw talent ability to want to develop.

Ever notice that many of the hitting coaches that major league baseball teams hire are guys who were either borderline major league players or players who never even played in the bigs. Certainly one of the most successful hitting coaches was Charley Lau, who gained fame as the batting coach of the Kansas City Royals when they were pretty good. His lifetime major league batting average was .255. But he turned out some pretty good hitters in his coaching career. Evidently he knew how it should be done, but couldn't do it very well himself.

As someone once said about me "He knows everything about golf except how to play it". Can't avoid the truth.

When I heard Enfield tell the story he made it sound like a joke. Said he was a graduate student at FSU and was shooting around at the gym. When a player asked who the heck he was he said "a shooting coach". The rest is history.

It was reported he was a shooting coach for one or two NBA teams. Not college. I don't know what the true story is.
All I know he came out of nowhere to be one of the hottest names in college basketball.

Looked up his bio. He was a great player at John Hopkins. Held the all time NCAA free throw percentage for awhile. Started a camp for shooters, and eventually was the shooting coach for the Milwaukee Bucks for two years and the Boston Celtics for two years, before joining the Florida State program as an assistant for five years before getting the FGCU job. He was also his high school class's validictorian. Smart guy. Married a beautiful model. Supposedly made millions in a start up company. This guy's too good to be true.

He was a shooting coach for the celtics and bucks. Prior to the NBA he has a basketball shooting consultant business where he made his first millions. I didn't realize he holds the ncaa free throw % record. He shot 92.5%.

That is the same shooting percentage that Delaware's Elena Della Donne shot from the line. Maybe we could hire her as our shooting coach. At least as our free throw shooting coach.

His record was broken by Blake Ahearn of Mo State who now plays professionaly in China. He now holds the single season record of 97.5%. That's better than I could do in my prime.

97.5%, that is amazing. Free throws to him where like slam dunks for Shaq.
