So that's how they kept it a secret so long ~ they picked a name that people wouldn't believe was the name they actually picked.

"They're going to be called the American Athletic Conference"
"Yeah, sure they are. C'mon, if you can't tell me yet, don't just make stuff up."

ACC vs AAC hoping that people will mix them up to the benefit of the AAC

I thought the same thing.

Or that it will be associated with the Dallas Mavericks arena.

So the new name is AAACCCKKKK!!! Makes me think of Bill the Cat. Conference kind of looks like him.

At least it's over now. We know our name. We know what our membership will be for the foreseeable future. We know what the contract terms are (at least we think we do).

Now we can move on.... thankfully.

If the ACC gets gutted by realignment and invites up the eastern half of the AAC to bandage the wounds, they can call it the American Atlantic Coast Conference ~ the AACC.

I wanted something more metropolitan. Phooey.

Still--not the worst name for the purpose of getting on the top of alphabetical lists.

Even gets in ahead of the Div1 BBall conference the for-profit schools are trying to get set up, Aacme.

Of course, it won't take long before people realize its also short for the "All Aboard Conference".

Everyone on the big east fb page hates it.. I like American Athletic Conference... AAC.. sounds good to me. It's good for chanting, A.A.C! A.A.C! Just like sec...acc... big 10, big 12... I see a lot of folks wanting Big America... how do you chant that?

Sounds like a division in a professional sports league.

That SUCKS for a conference name. Maybe just maybe they should called CUSA and see how much it would have cost to but their name. LOL The name they leaked a few weeks ago sounded better than this joke of a name ( America12 ) let alone the acronym was even better AXII or A12. I just don't get who comes up with these stupid names let alone approves them. I personally would have chimed in with my opinion if a site was availabe lie they mentioned. Thank god Louisville is off to the ACC after next season for this new name AAC just doesn't do it IMO.
