RE: American Athletic Conference
It reminds me of how business listings in the phone work. AAC comes before ACC. Your conference will always be listed first.

Didn't want American, etc. etc. in the name, but looking at it more and more, it's a pretty simple name that makes the point of what this new conference is. Many liked the Eastern Athletic Conference I saw lingering around on here and I must admit, the EAC didn't sound bad, but Tulsa, Houston, SMU are not East. Metro had it's possibilities, but I said why name something newly created by calling it something old and gone.

The more and more I look at it (American Athletic Conference)and think about how they can market it and what the logo may look like if they do it right (ACC comparisons not withstanding), we could do alot worse IMHO. With Navy in the league, it also sounds appropriate and if somewhere down the road we were able to pull in the other two Academies, the name becomes more appropriate. "Athletic" makes sense as well, with respects to the fact that we are going away from the hybrid and besides Navy all schools (for now) are ALL SPORTS. If this is the name the conference is going with, I think we'll be alright.

Here is my problem with it: if the press is constantly labeling you as CUSA redux, and you're looking to establish an identity separate from CUSA, why would you go with something that clearly references that? CUSA is a severely weakened brand, if you're going to rip off a brand, at least rip off a good brand.

I have been understanding regarding the TV contract, expansion candidates, and selling the name. They didn't have much control over the TV contract or Big East name, and their options were extremely limited with expansion candidates. This was their first real choice as a conference, and they screwed it up.

Metro and EAC were far superior choices to American Athletic. The only identity it establishes is that it is CUSA redux.I said it before with America 12: watch them make Red, White, and Blue divisions.

After reading the knee-jerk reactions on espn commentaries, the vast majority of comments are making fun of the name for it's similarity to the ACC, as well as making fun of C-USA for the teams having come from there. An important distinction.

The AAC draws to mind the ACC, not C-USA.

Way better than American 12 and maybe a bit less gimmicky than going back to metro. I can live with it.

Just what we needed. Geesh... but we have to think that they at least researched this before deciding, don't we?

RE: American Athletic Conference
IMO, this is a very lazy and unoriginal name. When I looked at the work of the ad agency that the BE hired my first thought was bland and unimaginative. This name fits that bill. Why in world would we want to name our conference, "America" anything? I really just do not understand this.

No matter what they did most people on this board would have criticized it. They were in a no win situation. The name doesn't matter if you win games. Glad they picked one now let's move on.

Not a bad name at all. If it comes with a really nice logo then you guys are off to the races and the branding can begin. 04-cheers

This is true, and I can cosign on it. There's no going back now. Might as well get on board and try to be positive.

@BigEastConf For those asking, the conference intends to emphasize "The American" as its brand, not an acronym.

RE: American Athletic Conference
Louisville convinced them to take the AAC name because it will easier to fix the court and field logos next year.
Our all conference team will be All-Americans.
Cincinnati and UConn can pretend the joined the big time. What you wanted us to join the ACC not the AAC, oops.
When the ACC is raided it will merge with the AAC to form the AACACC.
Our coaches can trick recruits!
Cincinnati and UConn are hoping the ACC sues the heck out of this league, tired of litigation dragging on the ACC just takes all the AAC teams and kills the league.

My plan all along has been to complain about it no matter what it ended up being.

what a bunch of haters...nothing wrong with the name. Big American/Metro American and others were terrible. This is at least nice and smooth and makes the name at least on par with the ACC
