LibertyGrad01 please just stop. As a graduate of LU and GSU this whole process fascinates me because both of my schools are involved. but our fans have been over on this board constantly campaigning for our alma mater, which i'm sure after the 500th time could get annoying especially since NOONE on this board has any power to give us entry into the conference. also some need to grow a thicker skin. yes people hate us because of misconceptions about what we believe and endorse. Get over it. Don't get mad. (Insert quote about flies, honey, and vinegar here) There are people who's minds you will never change. If you accept that fact and we all just wait and see with this I think everyone will be able to play a little nicer. I for one have been interested in reading about the sunbelt traditions as I have a good friend at UL and a coworker of mine is a Troy grad who are pretty big sports fans. I guess i'm in the minority to think that this might actually help give hope to people getting along with an LU fan. Carry on.

And nothing about what he said was being a d-bag. You're being hypersensitive.

USA was founded in 1963. We started playing baseball in 1965. In those 47 seasons of playing Division I baseball we have 24 NCAA Regional appearances and it looks like we might add to that number this season. USA has been ranked as high as #1 in the Top 25/30 polls. Not too bad, eh?

Basketball has been to the postseason 13 times, including 8 NCAA Tournaments. Three of those 8 NCAA trips were at-large bids (last at-large coming in 2008) so our basketball was thought of highly enough to receive an at-large bid. Our basketball has been ranked in the Top 10 before.

Our tennis has always been strong. We've won a national championship in mixed-doubles.

David Kimani won the 1999 Cross-Country National Championship.

These are just a few highlights for ya, Liberty fan. Obviously the big unknown is USA Football. This is will be our first fully transitioned year. We will see how it turns out. If our other sports are any indication, we'll be just fine.

Let's not overlook the facts. If Liberty were to move to FBS, they will be the first private school to do so since the D-I A/AA split. They would also be the only private school in the SBC. Not sure if that would also be a consideration, private schools have a different way of doing things.

Other then Troy fan hatred of Jax St, which is great for a rivalry, what other downs would they bring??? I don't see a problem with the state of Alabama having 3 SBC members, it won't hurt anyone. After all, there are 4 ACC schools within 50 miles of themselves in NC, doesn't seem to have hurt them to much.

Jax St does need some upgrades, but all FCS call ups will need some sort of upgrades, so that can't be an arguement.

Don't forget our softball, we are in only our 7th season. Last year made the NCAA tourney for the first time and are currently ranked in the top 25. We are 3-1 against the mighty SEC with our only loss to Alabama(4-1).

Not only would JSU be the 3rd Sun Belt team in Alabama, but they would be the 6th FBS team in Alabama. Does Alabama really need 6 FBS teams? No. With Charlotte and Appalachian State moving up, North Carolina now has 7 FBS teams. But they also have twice the population of Alabama. Our FBS per population ratio is already out of whack.

To put it another way, Alabama is ranked #23 among state population. But year only California, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas have more FBS teams than Alabama. Alabama is tied with Louisiana and Michigan with 5.

For those that dislike Liberty and our belief system, that's fine. I would just ask that you behave like adults, behave like you would want your children to behave if you have them and act civil towards each other.

I don't think you do get it.

Most people take issue with Liberty refusing to hire gays, and having members employed there endorsing and pushing for imprisonment of people witnessing gay marriages.

The fact that you are a religious university (or a university that supports Champions for Christ, if you'd rather) means nothing to me. I'm not for nor against it. I don't even care that you teach creationism. I'd wager about 99% of the board is the same way.

But, if you are trying to say that the above "offenses" (I put in quotes for your benefit) are what Liberty is all about, then I guess you could say many on here do indeed hate what Liberty is all about.

You keep trying to make this about your religion, and it's really not. It's different, but there's lots of different things in the world.

I don't hate because of your religion. I hate because of your hate.

Then I would say the hate is pretty equal.04-rock

I appreciate the point, but I disagree that the #1 college football state, being Alabama, and the #1 college football TV market, being Birmingham, is over-saturated.

Actually that is incorrect.

Group A Group B Group C

Group A decides that because of certain, insignifanct reasons Group C is an abomination to all groups A-Z and decide to treat them accordingly.

Group B takes notice and treats Group A as the douchebags they are being.

The status quo was broken by Group A. Therefore, Group B's reaction is just that, reactionary. Had Group A kept its **** to itself all Groups would have cohesion.

Benson comments would worry me if I was an LU hater and buoy me if I was an LU Kool Aider. It sounds like the proverbial 'vote of confidence' aka the kiss of death. Whoever said expect Benson to announce LU by next week may be on the money

And what is up with everyone's gay opinions? LU doesn't allow gays to work at the University. So what? They don't advocate locking people up who go to gay weddings, let alone locking up gays. I have never seen that printed in any of their material nor espoused by either Jerry. To those who say their views are akin to Pre-Civil Rights and blacks are just as crazy as the LU people. You want gay crazy? Check out Westhoro Baptist Church. In the mean time, stick to athletics and let the gay stuff go.
Athletically, LU doesn't bring as much to the table as JMU. But on the whole, the disparity, while there, is not a huge chasm. Financially and visibility wise LU brings more to the table then JMU. JMU is the safe and better choice, for all sports. If they are allowed to just go 'football only' you might as well start the countdown clock until they leave and you are right back where you started.

Alright SB, you guys win. Unless we're invited in this will be my last post. Unlike another poster I'll stick to my word. Here's the deal about liberty that some of you don't get. We are a Christian college that views the Bible as the actual word of God. We believe that certain behaviors, lifestyles, choices are wrong. If we believe those choices are wrong how do we justify hiring them to teach in our university? Some of you call it discrimination. We call it holding to our biblical beliefs. Remember we are a Bible believing Christian college. I would hope we never compromise our beliefs to join a conference. What we believe makes us unique. As our chancellor said recently the last thing this world needs is another liberal college. As I've written a few times I don't think Liberty gets an invite this go round.. Until that time comes. Peace out!!!
