Injuries in college sports
This article was prompted by the terrible injury suffered by the Louisville hoops player today.

It says the NCAA carries only a catastrophic coverage policy with a $90K deductible with the rest being up to the student and his/her family. I guess I always assumed the college would be required to carry coverage for the athletes they were asking to risk injury on their behalf. How foolish of me.

Sad and not too surprising. The whole "student athlete" thing is just a notion the NCAA cooked up in the 50s to avoid the athletes being considered employees so they could dodge worker's comp claims from injured football players. A key case involved the widow of a Colorado football player who died from head injuries in a game who tried to get death benefits.

RE: Injuries in college sports
If true, that's pretty bad. That kid who became paralyzed at Eisenhower in Blue Island had a 2 million max i think, he ran though in a few years. Not sure how long it was. He lived like 7-8 years or something, family had to pay and care was lessened. He eventually passed, not sure of exact cause. I believe they did pass a bill (might have been his name) allowing for lifetime coverage, which was also part in the Affordable Care Act. No sure how the latter would apply to the NCAA now, future or at all.
