Ok I couldn't watch it (weak stomach). What happened to the Louisville's player leg?

see it as it happened.
I had a teammate suffer a broken humerus (upper arm) during a punt return when he took a direct hit while his arm was fully extended. It sounded like baseball bat breaking. Nasty. The team doctors and his dad made the decision to keep him sedated on the flight back to Memphis from Wichita. They surgically plated and screwed it back together and he made a full recovery.
I didn't play football at your level, but I played everything and ended up choosing golf of all things. I saw some shite. I have no fear, but could never be a doctor...when you see it in person...a whole other indescribable feeling.

My arms broke out in goosebumps reading the name Hank Gaithers.
I hope I don't live long enough to watch somebody drop dead on a basketball court again.

Reminded me of DeAndre Brown. I heard his leg snap about 40 rows up and 40 yards away.

I thought I read that they inserted a rod in his leg. Assuming it's a fairly clean break, agree with earlier post that his tibia and fibula will actually be stronger where the break occurred due to fracture callus. Looks terrible, but it's better than breaking an ankle. Joints never work quite right again after you mess them up.
I incurred a very similar injury coming off a vault during a gymnastics meet in high school. It was just a freak landing. Guess I didn't punch off the horse square or something, but I knew it coming down. Everything was in slow motion, and, yes, the sound is horrific, especially in a quiet gym. It sounds like a huge tree branch snapping. The oddest part, other than the slo-mo, was that it was initially excruciating, but very quickly, my leg went numb. I don't remember feeling it when they put the air splint on to transport me to the ER.
Interestingly, I did get credit for completing the vault, but I got a low score because of the landing and some unladylike f-bombs. Sadly, I didn't get to do my second vault. LOL.

Same here. All the USM fans thought it was a sure TD, great throw to our best receiver and you could hear the snap over all the cheering.
I wanted to throw up when I saw the UL kid, you just see his leg completely give out and you could see the bone sticking out if you looked close enough even on the TV. My fiance actually yelled out loud.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.

I was kind of surprised to see the players at the game so shook up. Our military men and women their age have probably seen much, much worse.

With it being Opening Day, I remember watching the clips of John McSherry in 1996. Sure, it's not quite the same. One was an athlete in the prime of his life, and one was an older, obese umpire. But it was still not a good sight. If I remember correctly, it pretty much looked like he was shot when he fell to the ground.
