New Mexico Experiences its own Toad Graham Moment
With Steve Alford saying yes to an extension (after losing a first round game) then turning around and taking the UCLA job.

Terrible hire UCLA...and there were complaints about the extension at New Mexico after the playoff loss so guessing some Lobo fans are happy.

Meanwhile some Gopher fans savior, Flip Saunders said no.

RE: New Mexico Experiences its own Toad Graham Moment
UNM really lucked out here, because from what I've been able to gather over the years, Alford is apparently a first-class **** with precious few scruples.

Let's see... Dan Guerrero just hired a coach that was ostensibly fired from Iowa after running that ship aground and alienating the fan base. Sure, getting good results with New Mexico is a feather in Alford's cap, but it's really not that hard to win in Albuquerque. The Lobos have been pretty darn good on multiple occasions in the past few decades and are usually in the top half of the Mountain West.

Now UNM gets to hire a new coach with their program heading in the right direction, and what's more, USC is going after the Florida Gulf Coast guy. It seems like the only party that is coming out behind in this is UCLA. Guerrero has further cemented his reputation as an idiot.

USC did hire the Florida Gulf Coast coach. Maybe it's a requirement now at USC that all of the coaches' wives are ex-models?

BTW, I actually think Alford will do well at UCLA. He has Steve Lavin-type hair so that has to count for something. Plus his UCLA players seem to play better at New Mexico than they did at UCLA after they transferred.
