who will be the new ECU?
which fan base will complain the most about our conference and moan about how they are too good to associate with us? While no one is as bad as Louisville fans some of the ECU die hards gave it their all to compete. With them gone someone will have to fill the void.

RE: who will be the new ECU?
???

this Pirate has and will continue to support CUSA until the fans of the other schools of the new CUSA run me off. Prior to the BE inviting the Pirates into the conference, I wasn't happy about how realignment was turning out, but then again how many of us really were? But at the same time I wasn't cold to the idea of what the new CUSA would or could be. I appreciated being in a conference with USM / Marshall. UAB / Rice / UTEP struggled, but they had their moments in any given year and have been good to great in other Olympic sports. UTSA / ODU / Charlotte are young FBS programs that will continue to get better and develop. There's a lot of potential there. Mid Tenn, WKU, and La Tech are teams that can quickly compete and become as successful as Southern Miss has been for the last 20 years. I was looking forward to getting the Dawgs on the schedule.

I never thought we were too good for the old or new CUSA. We've had some great years here at ECU while in CUSA, but we haven't IMHO separated ourselves from the pack in any of the three main sports (football, basketball, baseball) to be able to act like we're too good than to be a member of CUSA. We have every right (like any school) to want our school to continue to improve itself and it's position in the football/basketball hierarchy, but we should never forget where we came from. Our roots if you will. CUSA has been a good home for East Carolina and although I'm excited about our future prospects, I'm disappointed that we're losing some great rivalries and teams that I enjoyed watching compete.

Well you asked. I would say it will be fans of either UAB, USM or Marshall.

Depends, if one of the UL-x twins get in the Tech fan base will erupt and be looking for a way out... Otherwise I'm sure Southern Miss fans have to be feeling pretty disenfranchised about now...

So basically you are asking what school will have 5-6 posters step up in the delusional realm of kool aid slurpers and go past lunatic fringe status ?? Seems like a wide open race to me.

I'm gonna take either UTSA, UNT, WKU, or MTSU for 1000, Alex.

Who has the best home attendance? You can't be the new ECU and not harp on and on about how great your football attendance is.

Sure you do. That would mean one less loss in football and two less losses in basketball for UAB next year.

Are the ECU fans really worse than the Memphis or UCF fans?

From an outside perspective, yes. It isn't all of them, but the ones who are bad are terrible. I never had anything against ECU until having to read some of the crap written by a handful of fans on this board.

As for "is ecu really as bad as memphis and ucf" ... YES; No, make that a RESOUNDING YES!!!

Way worse than memphis - one has something on a national scale to brag about and one doesn't - yet both do; ad nauseam.

YES, worse than ucf but only due to the quantity of posts. Both have an abundance of holier than thou posters...there's more, or at least more activity, by the ecu version.

As for the OP question - assuming you're talking about harder to live with.....

I predict UNT, at least at first - many of them will be horrible to live with until they realize they've joined an overall higher level of competition than what they're leaving and the beat-downs will be worse and in greater numbers.

Overall, I think the WORST we're going to see will be from newbie players. ODU and UNCC, and to a lesser extent WKU will have younger posters or inexperienced posters in the beginning and will approach it from a macho stance or at least from a perspective of trying to verbally pound rather than use wit and wisdom to outman the opponent. HOWEVER, that really won't be too bad as it's just a learning phase they'll go through - and they'll learn quickly. I've already noticed it to some degree....not naming names but there are at least three who are definitely newbies to sports message boards --- started out in a verbal "sticking out their chest" approach who are now actually quite good at writing effective yet non aggressively antagonistic barbs.

Assuming you're talking about who will be the most disgruntled - SOUTHERN MISS (deservedly so....along with a couple of others who are EQUALLY "deservedly so"). The difference is, of those who are "deservedly so", we are unquestioned the most imbedded in ways of "the deep South". Some will ***** and moan and not be polite. Their mommas have been dead a really long time. The rest are going to still be disgruntled, but our mommas are still alive....they might even be 85 years old but they are still alive. Deep south mommas will slobber-knock their children, even if those children are 60 years old, if they are disrespectful.

So yes, SOUTHERN MISS. We'll be disgruntled at our position in CFB and frustrated 'cause we're too scared of our mommas to complain too much.

RE: who will be the new ECU?
I have never had an issue with East Carolina fans, they have been, IMO, among the most animated and communicable with me when they were in the Conference USA "Family Circle."

I kind of hope one of the newcomers to the conference puts me in mind of East Carolina, I know where football was concerned, they traveled in pretty good numbers and made a lot of noise when they played UAB at "Lesion" Field. Most fun I ever had there last season was when myself and the grandfather of one of UAB's players went over to the ECU side of the stadium at halftime and engaged in some friendly trash talk with some of the Pirates fans, who took it all in stride and gave back as well as they got. Some of them actually thought he was hilarious and even came down from the stands to the shake the guy's hand.

After all, it's just a game and it should be all about fun, and a little ribbing the opposition is a part of the experience. Ask Troy. ;-)

No more, no less, IMO. I had a very friendly and funny back and forth with the UCF men's basketball team at Bartow Arena this year, they were in the stands rooting on their women's basketball team against the Blazers. There was one player in particular, one of their top players in fact, I think he wore #33, who was having just as much fun with it as I was. Our women, in the end, pulled out the victory, and I got the last 03-lmfao

The UCF fans I've always run across at games were pretty decent, stand up individuals who didn't mind fan animation and heckling, and brought more than their fair share of both to the games. Just the way I like it...
