OT: Steve Alford to UCLA
I am not sure where UNM looks for their next coach. They will fund their basketball program to a level that no CUSA team can match. I wonder if Tyndall's name will come up for this job. It is much better than Texas Tech IMO.

New Mexico is a good job. I wonder what the buyout on that new contract extension was?

I hope that they hire Menzies (nmsu) as their next coach.

they pay pretty well and they get like 15k people out to their games. Albuquerque has no professional sports so fill that void.

They play in a pretty competitive conference, they are a name school and and have 1.1 million people in their MSA. They were also conference champs 4 of the past 5 seasons. I didn't say it was a great job, but it is certainly a good one.

New Mexico is a better job than Texas Tech. The city is nicer. They draw 6000 more fans a game. And they play in just as good a basketball conference.

I'd be shocked if Tubby Smith did not get 1 of those 2 jobs.

Odu has one of the top jobs out there. Mid major on the way up..no media and a good salary. But the announcement of who our next coach will be is out this week and I'm hoping its a good landing. Even if usc is now looking for a coach. And that may be who we want for the job. Enfeld keats rhodes and felton are all being mentioned for the job.

Their arena seats 18k and is on campus. They averaged over 14k in 2012. They get around 5-6k for their howl night which is at midnight for the start of practice. Alford was going to make about 2 million at UNM. They are in one of the best basketball conferences in the country. Here are a few pictures of their facilities.

Here is a photo gallery: http://www.golobos.com/view.gal?id=94899

The Pit is rated as one of the top ten arenas in the country with a sound level higher than at Camaron Indoor.

The Lobos are followed by the entire state of New Mexico. It is THE sporting event in that state.

ABQ and it's surrounding areas are great places to live, visit, and recreation in.

I hope this means Floyd will be able to get the series going again. Alford does not like Floyd, and did not want to play UTEP. Fear will do crazy things to people.

UCLA is crazy. Don't they know the incredible things Jeff Lebo has done at ECU?

RE: OT: Steve Alford to UCLA
I used to travel for business there for many years. It's hard to explain but it is a tough place for a basketball coach. Obviously, it is a great basketball school. I did not know they now pay their coach that high so it should have high expectations. UNM fans will accept so so football seasons but they will "slash" their wrists if the bball teams do not go close to undefeated. Lobo fans are good fans but are really hard to please. It's great to have high expectations but a coach like Alford probably feels the heat 24/7. I'm guessing a school like UCLA that pays as well has other sports to help distribute the financial pressure to other sports for their athletic budget.

Albuquerque is better city than Lubbock, but lets get real here, MWC is not even close to being as good as the Big 12 and it certainly isn't a better job.

Lobo basketball is king of the entire state, but we are talking about a very small, very poor state.

MWC was rated better this year than the Big 12. That's not always been the case, but the MWC has turned into a multi-bid conference. They've earned 16 bids the last 4 years.

And the Lobos have made 11 tournament appearances since 1990 vs. 6 for Texas Tech.

As I mentioned they draw much better. And as you agree, Albuquerque is nicer than Lubbock.

It's not even close.

Very good arenas, crowds and multiple good teams in the MWC. Kansas is a great program and is the Big 12 with a couple more good teams. The not even close statement of yours is not even close to being correct.

did you just say that lubbock is a better job than unm??? Not just no, but hell no. I know the media likes to lay it on thick when it comes to the big 12 in the Dallas market, but c'mon now

So......New Mexico just hired assistant coach Neal and will pay him 750k per year, while Tech just hired Tubby Smith and will pay him 1.8mil.

Now tell me again about how New Mexico is a better job than TT?
