Chris Pillow was 3rd in the "B" section of the pole vault, with 17' 9". Nice result.

Our women were 7th in the 4 x 800 meter relay (9:04.44). Keltie John, Lillian Nwora,Imani Mark and Heather Olson. Very creditable time.

Still waiting for Marie Thompson in the 10K.

Not much for Friday, at least until tonight, when McKenzie Johnson competes in the "A" section of the women's pole vault.

Alex Zinchenko went 15.67 (51' 5") in the shot put.

McKenzie vaulted well, finishing 9th in a tough field, with 4.06 meters (13' 9 3/4").

Great effort by our discus throwers. Sharae Robinson with 165' 3" and Claire Uke with 155' 8". Sharae moves to #4 on the all-time Rice list with that throw. Claire moves to #7 with her effort.

RE: Texas Relays
I see Cameron Burrell (oldest son of Leroy) went a windy 10.07 in the boys 100 meters in Austin today. My brother is teaching at Ridge Point now here in Sienna, and I imagine Burrell will have school records in both the 100 and long jump that will last for a long, long time. He's going to UH next year to compete for his dad's team. I think he had Cameron in one of his classes last semester.

Chris Pillow's pole vault last week of 5.41 meters (17' 9") places him #3 on Rice's all-time list, behind a couple of decent vaulters ( Jason Colwick and Dave Roberts).

Wow, great result for a sophomore. How does his progression as a sophomore compare to the other 2? I'm presuming he's not maxing out yet.

That's a tough comparison, because those other two were/are so talented. Also, please understand that the pole vault runway at Texas is conducive to outstanding vaults. I would expect that Pillow won't touch that height until the first round of the NCAA Championships (which will be hosted by U.T.).
