Not when I was in school. However, we share nothing in common culturally with GaSo or Troy, so they didn't fit the standard.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling......
You are just mad because two rednecks just parked their trucks in front of your gangsta party and the rednecks who were already living behind your house (Troy) already told you to turn the music down a few times.......
Georgia State doesnt fit, and really hasnt fit. Take a look at the current SBC. App State, Ga Southern, Troy, ASU, ULM, even Texas State. All of us are in small towns. Jonesboro may be the 3rd largest city in Arkansas, but we only have 67,000 people. WKU is small. Now, we're all decently close to a major city, but we just threw a school built in a city of a few million people, into a situation where their fans will have to travel to Troy, AL and its 18,000 or so people every other year. Its culture shock.
Its all about what fits.
I agree but I think they CAN fit. The only issue is will that happen before or after they learn how to score more points than other teams and then go to CUSA?
They certainly could, but they will not get used to it until realignment settles down.
I think ASU fans would really enjoy playing some of the teams in this league, but we're not going to enjoy anything until this starts to settle down.

Going back to our TAAC/A-Sun Days, we were conference mates with UTSA, UCF, FIU, and FAU - that is who we "fit" with. It's not a slight against the other Sun Belt teams to say this, it's just recognition of the proper cultural fit.

GaSt has no fanbase and no prospects for any. In a city of millions, GaSt draws 7,500 on average for footbali.

I dont think Georgia State was a mistake...I just dont think they fit now like they did when they joined a year ago.

One trip to the High Country to play a game in Boone and none of you will want to leave the Sun Belt.
You will be bringing your Cajun cooking, trucks with Arkansas tags, and Underground Atlanta decals
back to Boone as often as you can.
Then when the SEC calls, you will just hang up on them when they offer you entry.
Now where did I put that other bottle of Jack.

Agreed. The Sun Belt has become a college town Conference, and I love that. If WKU wants to bolt fine, maybe they'll take Ga State with them and leave stAte and UL where they belong, with us!

If people wouldn't panic and stick with the SBC, this conference would survive and things would be OK.
Fricken easy for you to say! You're in the eastern division along with other decent athletic schools right in your backyard! We're stuck with regularly traveling to Idaho, New Mexico, and west Texas!!! You eastern folks can fricken have this conference!

OK, so I know if fans feel this way then the folks who actually make decisions do too. So, why would we push to bring Idaho in if there's a chance stAte and UL will want to leave by doing so? Lose two of our top programs who have been here since the beginning, for freakin' Idaho?! Insanity.

We block Sam because they are the exception to the rule that Texans love good football and will come out to support it. Two straight title game appearances and they averaged less than 8800 a game barely outdrawing a 3-8 Missouri State.
We block Lamar because they aren't a good FCS, they draw OK for an FCS but still under what they need. We've been down the Lamar road before and they were a problem.
So you can sniff and say we are hosed on travel because we block schools but we are keeping you from making mistakes.
I can tell you that App had no hassles getting approval and there was more opposition in the east to GaSo than in the west. If we were obstructionists we would have held them up to force our way on NMSU.
