RE: Competition opens up with starting safeties gone
Glad to hear Larkins is happy on D. One of the things that has sometimes happened in the past has been to bring in guys who were very highly rated on defense with a promise of letting them be a WR here. Sometimes they succeed, but a lot of times they under-achieve on offense and we're stuck with them. Glad to hear we have a guy is willing to play where he is most needed and will have the best chance of succeeding.

Good reports about Woodside just keeps comin'. Hope he can do it on game day.

" we're stuck with them ".

- These are student athletes, first and foremost at the University of Toledo to get an education... Some may be superior in ability, or are more driven on and off the field... But, I would not consider being stuck with any of these players on scholarship... The rest of your post I definitely agree on...

Yeah--my choice of words didn't really communicate what I had in mind as it could be construed as a knock on the player. All I mean to say is that if such a player does not succeed as a WR, and does not move to DB, he spends most of his 4 years standing on the sideline. If the big schools are recruiting him as a DB, and the recruiting services rate him very high as a DB, but not-so-much as a WR, maybe we should have taken the hint. Using a scholarship on a player who doesn't play benefits neither the team nor the player. He does get an education, though...hopefully.
