RE: Easterwood on Radio yesterday .. (Gary Parrish Experience)
Keith knows most of these young men better than most having seen a majority of them develop over the summer during AAU play. Anyone that thinks otherwise is misinformed.

This:
And I'm sure YOU predicted DJ to be one of our best players in his senior year, right? Maybe we should ask YOU about incoming recruits and ignore Easterwood because YOU are the expert on Memphis high school hoops. Maybe we should tell Gary Parrish to replace the Easterwood segment with a JCraft segment, right? LOL!!!!!
C'mon dude, don't be a doosh.

You do realize Josh though the same thing at the beginning of THIS year and almost redshirted him?

I'll say it point blank.
Why aren't Josh's players ever as good as advertised. I know he is a good guy. I know he is learning on the job. But if this class isn't blowing up from the beginning and Joe, Adonis, and Shaq get poor NBA draft positions (if drafted at all) some of JP's recruiting luster is going to wear off as he gets a reputation as a coach who hurts NBA aspirations.
That's crazy, funny yet sad. Name one coach who that's ever been said about.
Rating of players is a joke in and of itself, so do we blame Josh for player ratings being inaccurate?
So all the player ratings are inaccurate?
If all the players aren't as good as advertised, shouldn't the recruiting coach realize this and go after the gems?
If the players are as good as advertise and their skills aren't to the level expected in college isn't that the coach's problem?
So does DJ who no one recruited but is now being mentioned as a second rounder help or hurt Josh's reputation?
Granted hes not drafted yet but no one was recruiting him. Did Josh get lucky? Is DJs work ethic the same as everyone else on the team?
Maybe I'm missing the point but Josh gets players and I believe based on who he is recruiting that all this mess we've talked about in this thread is stuff you must consider.
Bring in the new guys and lets get going!
Memphis, where 31-5 is a disappointing season and the coach is terrible.
Craziness

On the play in the video, Tarik did not box out his man long enough. That was the problem. The problem was not that he didn't go for the ball.
Tom Izzo will argue with you.

Some folks argue to argue, I guess.
Payne and Nix play together because Payne can face up as a 4. Same with Duke who uses Kelly as a 4. Shaq n Black both can't do anything of substance outside of 5 ft. Besides, DJ was our most effective big man even against MSU (6 rebs/4 blks). He had 90+ blocks this year. You play that guy as much as possible.
Remember Jonathan Mills (all 6'4 of him) ate Black's and Shaq's lunch in the CUSA tournament final.
It isn't the measure of your height, it is the measure of your heart.
Hard for any coach anywhere to coach that up.

I'm not saying boxing out isn't important. I'm saying that understanding where a missed shot might land is more important. You can't always know that, however. Just as you can't always box out for various reasons. You might be the person shooting the ball and can't box out. You might be the guards racing back down the court for a missed shot fast break opportunity. You might not need to box out the wing who is on the other side of the court from where the shot was taken. It might be a 3 point shot that bounces past the free throw line as most, missed 3 pt shots do.
Just saying that boxing out is the only consideration for rebounding is inaccurate. Having a nose for the ball is better. Being able to jump higher than a few inches and being tall are also considerations. To suggest that boxing out is the end-all, be-all of rebounding is short-sighted, pardon the pun.
boxing out is crazy important and basic. so many diff drills can be done in practice to show how easy it really is to win the rebounding battle if the effort is put forth to box your man out. im sure pastner has made the guys go through them, they just dont register in game for some reason.
this never happens, but if all 5 guys on the floor made a concerted effort to find a body and throw their ass into them to box them out, rebounding wouldnt be an issue. sure, there are several scenarios that could change it, but basic boxing out can go a long way.
find the nearest body, turn, box out. now if someone else comes flying in out of nowhere while youre boxing out, that can be on your teammates. its 5 on 5, one man cant hold off 5 guys, but if each man does their job, the ball should be theirs.
