The theory is that a school raises the quality of it's own profile by being in a better conference in that sport. I.e....if CUSA is a far better basketball conference, just by being in that conference, WKU would recruit better, have higher rpi, more packed houses, etc..... Whereas, in a bottom 10 basketball conference, even if you win the conference, you'll almost always be a 15-16 seed in the NCAA.

Many WKU fans feel that had WKU moved to CUSA when Charlotte, ODU, UAB, etc. left the Sun Belt, we would be a far better program than we are now. The SBC has hurt our basketball program over the years.

That's the theory.....

My theory is WKU is a cork. If the water level is high, WKU is high. If the water level is low WKU is low.

As opposed to schools like Gonzaga, UNLV (Big West edition), Boise, Marshall (MAC edition) who far outstripped the conference competition and became national names.

I laughed at this and I'm not exactly sure why...

Clearly...

Basketball RPI (this year) of remaining (and joining) members:

120 Texas-Arlington
154 USA
163 Arkansas State
171 Arkansas-Little Rock
209 Georgia State
221 Louisiana-Lafayette
263 Appalachian State
264 Georgia Southern
272 Texas State
278 Troy
305 Louisiana-Monroe
---------------------------

To me this makes NMSU for all-sports a MUST. NMSU's RPI was 55 this year. Seeing this numbers kinda hurts ya...

To be fair, I don't think Texas State's ranking is accurate.

We should be WAY below that.

In Sun Belt we have pretty much dominated in basketball even in down years....If we had beat Gonzaga and not lost on a buzzer beater we would have had more sweet 16's then they have last 10 years...Nationally we have had good times but yea you are right......what has hurt us is every time we get to the top, we are knocked back down when the coach leaves...Most WKU fans seem to think Harper is not going anywhere, so if that is the case I can use having sustained success even in new conf.....We have been burned before but those in the know seem to think Harper is different....We shall see....
