I have no idea whether he'll be successful, but I like that UB is aiming high...very unlike UB to do that.

Liking the hire a lot, hopefully good things to happen for Bulls basketball. The upcoming years will be especially key for the MAC, seeing how many newer coaches we have.

Personally I prefer someone with head coaching experience at the mid-major level, but I like the name and there's no arguing that he knows what it's like to win at the highest level. Congrats to UB and good luck to Coach Hurley.

Exciting pick with good bloodlines. I was just wondering what he was doing. He knows how to win, just needs to show he can convey that to others and get the players to do it. A little national light shines on the MAC....

With a little luck, he might be as good as Reggie Witherspoon was.

Good set of aggressive young coaches in the MAC.

This is a high risk, high reward hire. He could be great. He could be terrible. We don't have near enough information to guess which it'll be. My gut feeling? He'll be successful.

He is a big question mark. I have few doubts that he knows how to run a team on the floor and in practice. The question is, can he handle all the off-court stuff a D-I head coach must handle? There is so much to the job that is not about what you know about being successful on the floor.
The basketball world is littered with ex-coaches who were great players and even good basketball minds, but didn't handle the recruiting, the off-court issues, and the PR well enough. Hurley is a blank check there. It will be interesting, as he garners attention for the league. The news yesterday was "look what Bobby Hurley is up to" far more than "look what Buffalo is up to."

Absolutely. But there are some promising signs to keep UB fans optimistic.

1. He was offered job at Wagner when his brother left.

2. URI has a decent history and tradition, so he's familiar w/ expectations at a level above UB.

The question I have is why does Bobby look like he's 55 years old when he's only 41?

Moved into college coaching because his sex life was over?

Yes, it would be very lucky for Akron if UB hired a coach as good as Reggie Witherspoon.

Well, it's obvious Danny White (AD) is swinging for the fences here. Danny played some hoops at Notre Dame,,,his father is the Duke AD. He spoke with coach K and Mike Brey among many other people getting recommendations about Bobby Hurley and they all feel he is the next up and coming star. If both White and Hurley get to the level they want and expect at UB, neither will be around too long. I'm OK with that if we get a few great years out of UB basketball.
