Idaho and NMSU to SBC (FB only) in 2014

The Sun Belt Conference will grow by four members by the end of the week.

The addition of Georgia Southern and Appalachian State – already being reported by multiple outlets – will be announced Wednesday according to sources within the conference. Later in the week, perhaps as early Thursday, it is expected that New Mexico State and Idaho will also join the league beginning in 2014.

There is a reason for that.

NMSU was the only other school besides WKU mentioned as a possibility to replace Tulsa when they leave for the nBE. Looks like the Hilltoppers' chances to join C-USA just got a little better.

Happy for New Mexico State and Idaho. I hope it works out for them. I'm sure this sets up the possibility that Montana/South Dakota State eventually move to FBS.

I think this signals more than just WKU coming over from Sun Belt to CUSA (just a guess).....Why would SB be this aggressive if they did not think they could be down to 6 members sooner rather than later.....I guess Benson wants to make sure the SB does not equal the WAC.....

New Mexico State will head to the Big West for basketball. The situation involving CUSA is yet to be determined. WKU is coming but there might also be a little surprise addition(s) as well. Everyone will find out soon enough.

I'd call the GaSo and the App St stuff anticlimactic. At least for SBC expansion.

I wouldn't mind the 16 team set up but id be happier if we weren't just raiding the SBC. wouldn't mind seeing us grab a MAC program like Ohio.

It's all good and well to make fun of NMSU's pain. But, this is probably good for UTEP in the long run. I'd much rather have this than have the Aggies try to stay independent, fail, and drop to 1-AA.

When is this all going to end? I don't want to sound too Get-Off-My-Lawn-ish here, but can someone make a Power Point or draw a Venn diagram of who's going where and when?

How about this. The first Sunday of July is Conference Selection Sunday. Just throw everyone in a hat and draw lots.
