At least the Belt is doing this for survival and picked up some great FCS programs with potential at the next level. Had they not been raided, they probably would've tried to go with a similar strategy to the MAC by waiting and growing.

C-USA is more to blame for the dilution, they went from UCF and Houston to Old Dominion and UNC-Charlotte. They could've just not invited UTSA, ODU, and UNC-C and instead picked off ULL, stAte, and WKU.

SBC was already adding some of those teams.

Anyway, there was a much better way for CUSA than going crazy raiding SBC. But, it would have involved raiding MAC.

At the end of the day, I can't help but think this is exactly what the AQ conferences wanted. They'll have their playoff, and everyone else can have a separate playoff, w/o forcing any teams to FCS/IAA.

I dont know much, but the speculation is that ASU has spoken to the MAC. If WKU is gone, we actually are on an island in the SBC in terms of football. I think our administration could be talked in to accepting an invite.

The hard sell with us would be with the fans. No offense to Eastern Michigan, but the idea of November football at EMU frightens most of us.

Really? It didn't seem that bad.

The AQs are just looking for ways to make more money...I don't know why they would care about what the impacts are to non-AQs.

As it stands, the non-AQs have access to the playoff, and I doubt they would profit more from having a separate one over this...

If CUSA had taken three more Sun Belt instead of three move ups and done it in a fell swoop instead of stretching over a year, the Sun Belt probably would have been hard pressed to get up off the mat and add more FCS.

The history of FBS move-ups in the Sun Belt.

FIU. Was a full member. They added football and as a result of the conference rules, they automatically became a member.

FAU. Added to address WAC raid of NMSU, Idaho, Utah State, but only invited once Western Kentucky indicated they were not prepared to move to FBS at that time.

Western Kentucky. Once the BCS started sharing money, the 'Toppers found interest in moving FBS and as an existing member inclusion was automatic.

South Alabama. Charter member of the conference. Once they added football leagues required automatic admission.

Texas State. Was turned down for membership when they were seeking FBS membership. Accepted invite to the WAC as part of the WAC survival plan. Becomes a full FBS on July 1 having completed transition and joins the Sun Belt that date so they aren't a school that moved to FBS because the Sun Belt made them a move up.

Georgia State. Added as a hedge against FIU and UNT accepting CUSA bid though there are claims that FIU/UNT were on the fence until the GaSt add.

App State. A straight move up but with 26,000+ average attendance, 18 or so FCS playoff appearances and 3 FCS national titles, they would have the most impressive resume ever for an FCS move up (Marshall the only team to ever win 2 and move up until now) but for....

Georgia Southern. Averaging safely over the 15,000 attendance line, 19 or so FCS playoff appearances and SIX FCS national titles, the best resume on the field ever for a move-up.

Troy was FBS two years before joining the Sun Belt.
UNT was FBS six years before joining the Sun Belt and came to the leaue from the Big West.
