Coach Williams I think also is very happy, and with the schools they are aligning, feel he could find that comfort in staying put.

VCU locked up Smart. I hope WSU is working on a no-brainer extension for Marshall.

I see FGCU Coach Enfield being a possible candidate for UCLA. Younger guy. Model Wife. Very personable.
There would literally be angry mobs at the gates of the AD's house if this happened. It's out of the box, that's for sure, but UCLA boosters want and expect Wooden Part Two: Electric Bruin Boogaloo. No way in hell they settle for a guy with such a thin resume.

Agree, jumping from FGCU to UCLA? That is like an ocean. Enfield would be ideal for a good mid-major or low BCS team.

Maybe a USF.

RE: Coaching News and Rumors
I'm looking at names that are popular right now, that would consider taking it.

Howland won almost 70% of his games and went to 3 Final Fours and got fired after 4 years of no Final Fours.

Lavin won 65% and had gone to three straight Sweet 16's when one bad season cost him his job.

Who, of any candidate thought to be "worthy" would do that?

ESPN reporting Steve Alford to UCLA. Howland for Alford? Not sure that is a great trade. He didn't do that great at Iowa.

wow, perception wise, this is great for the C7 quite frankly. Esp if we went to 14 and got Wichita St and VCU (and both keep their coaches). We'd have kept all of our young coaches, and the top one from the MWC got poached.

The MWC was and is overrated. ESPN hypes them up so much because they have a contract with them. I'm actually a fan of Steve Alford though, lets see if he has what it takes to bring back UCLA and if not, expect another coaching search in 4 years.

With the way UCLA has been acting he'll be lucky to get 4 years.

Right and I get that. But- this happening makes the difference that much more pronounced now. Kind of telling that in an era where coaches are staying put a lot more now, a MWC coach is the one that leaves.

Alford is a downgrade from Howland. He has not got a team to the Sweet 16 in 14 seasons.

Maybe not UCLA..... but USC has interest.

I would actually rather have a young up and comer like Enfield than a retread like Alford

After 10 years....UCLA (especially many of their boosters/fans) got "stale" with Howland...and Alford brings a bit more FIRE with him and an ego..which actually plays well in much of LA.

No clue if Alford will be successful...but for UCLA, its probably worth a gamble.

Alford attract some very good talent to Albuquerque...he should have an easier time doing the same to the UCLA campus in Westwood.

I agree with what you said but they fired Howland after 3 Final Fours while Alford has never gotten past the Sweet 16.

Steve Alford's son was one of UNM's top recruits.

Aaron Gordon---brother of Drew Gordon. I believe Drew started out at UCLA and transferred to UNM.
