Rice at USM Game 3 (Sunday)
And we'ere off. Byrd walks then gets doubled off on a drive to the pitcher.

Bad luck on the DP. A single for Cook as he continues hot.

No dancing bananas in the first as Stringer continues cold with a K. Going to the bottom of the first 0-0.

So two lead off runners. Did we try to bunt. Had Byrd been on second, would he have scored on Cook's single.

Yes, bad luck, but Ford's job there was the advance the runner...and once again (for the umpteenth time) he failed to do so and, consequently, we wasted a leadoff baserunner who would have scored on Cook's single.

Again, Ford is one of our better, more consistent hitters, but he does not belong in the #2 spot in the lineup. He's killing us there and totally wasting Byrd's high OBP. Move Cook or Perrott into the #2 hole, and have Ford bat #3 or #6 or #7. The #2 hole hitter has GOT to be proficient at laying down the bunt and situational hitting. Ford is not.

Simms shuts down the Eagles in the first. Teykl leads off the second with a single. Aquino flies out and Ratt walks putting two on with one out for Perrott.

Perrott hits into a DP 5-4-3, our second in two innings, ugh.

On to the bottom of the second. Simms already has 2 Ks, a WP and a walk to his credit. But no runs.

Not really sure what he was thinking on the line out either. It wasn't like he had a good swing that produced a hard hit liner off the barrel to the pitcher; from what I saw on the video, he basically had a check swing that hit the ball weakly off the neck of the bat.

Maybe it is just my imagination, but it seems that we hit into an awful lot of double plays.

Our inability to move leadoff runners into scoring position is absolutely killing us, and has been all season long. I was okay with not asking Aquino to bunt, but did he really have to swing at the first pitch? Couldn't he work the count just a little bit in his favor and, perhaps, gotten a better pitch to hit?

We've all been waiting for Skyler to get rolling. Now's a good time for a hitting streak.

The Owls already have 5 more hits than the Eagles, but only one run. So far.

Two on with one out for Stringer in the 3rd.
