We played football most years after that up until after the '91 game.

MT didn't play wku in football from '92 - '06. Boots Donnelly vowed not to play the Hilltoppers again when during the '91 game he was informed old man Harbaugh had his staff stealing signals using a transfer QB, Jewel, from Middle Tennessee who had left during fall camp after getting beat out by true freshman Kelly Holcomb who go on to play, mostly as a back up in the NFL for 13 years.

If this comes true, I am happy the 100 miles of hate will continue in 2014.

Rivalries is what grows a fan base and that is a good one. I look forward to FAU and FIU growing into that kind of loathing. FAU fans already despise FIU, they just need to embrace that back.

FAU needs to get very relevant and very competitive in order for that to happen. Beat FIU's ass in their house once or twice and you'll have your rivalry.

Think is until the past 2 years we have OWNED FIU in football. All time we are 8-3 against them.

Basketball and Baseball is always a spirited comeptition and I think fairly close all time record.

Most of thier fan base has been obsessed with copeteing with Da U. I think that if finally changing. We go all out for games against FIU. I truly hope they start doing the same.

That's a silly mentality for FIU.

Try to compete with Da U? As a 'Canes fan, that's hilarious.

Very cool that a program that is considered your biggest rival was FCS very recently. That bodes well for the Sun Belt and the new teams coming as rivalries can form quickly as the case with MTSU and WKU.

There is definite potential between:

Ga State and Ga Southern
App State and Ga State
Ga Southern and Troy
App and Troy
Ga Southern fought Ark St in a FCS national title game so the first matchup will have a storyline and a bit of revenge due from Ark St

Now someone back me up with the excact numbers but MT and Western have been rivals since at least the 30's or 40's

MTSU goes 1-a in 2000, WKU in 2009. So you're saying MTSU had a rival in 1-aa for 9 years? 03-lmfao Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

Well I would say thats when the rivalry with Troy began. Unfortunately that didn't turn into what we hope rivalry wise because the trojans owned us (palladium is staying with us however).

That's fine. That way you guys can stare at the plaque's on the trophy reminding you how we owned you at the end of the rivalry.02-13-banana

App and Ga Southern is already a nasty rivalry averaging 26k attendance between us.

Great, are y'all coming in? I must have been in Cabo when it was announced. I was thinking South would get to play Georgia Southern, but not according to your schedule.

USA has potential as a rivalry as well, but we don't have any history. Baseball also has potential. Right now USA and Ga Southern would be #1 and #2 in RPI in the Sun Belt.

My apologies. Carry on.

MTSU and WKU were conference mates in the OVC for many years.

Understand now. MTPiKapp has always been adamant that the FCS years mean zero, so given WKU just moved up recently, I was a bit confused when the MTSU fan said WKU was their biggest rival. I guess the answer is that the FCS years did matter.

It's a nice try, but still misguided. MT and WKU have played one another 60+ times in football with nearly an even split. The "FCS years matter" because that's where the bulk of the games were played, but we didn't play at all after we moved up and had WKU not followed roughly a decade later we likely still wouldn't have played one another in football.

My bad. I thought you always said MTSU has been FBS since you began following them and you could care less about MTSU's FCS history. I am glad you have changed your position as MTSU did some things in FCS that are worth remembering, one of which are the games against WKU. Obviously, the FCS games matter since WKU recently moved up and MTSU already considers them their biggest rival.

One discussion has nothing to do with the other. My position has not changed, FCS accomplishments being irrelevant in FBS and the individual series history of two schools having "FCS years" are two entirely different discussions. You've woefully missed the point again, as you are apt to do.

Only one of the most recognizable mascots ever, currently in two mascot Hall of Fames and widely used by ESPN.

We've asked GSU Eagles to stop acting like this for some time and he won't so I'd like to speak for all of Eagle Nation when I say I'm sorry for his consistent comments.

All I said is I think it is encouraging a FCS school can move up and quickly become a long time FBS school's biggest rival. Bodes well for the SBC moving forward.

Is there a "long time FBS school" you've played 50+ times?
