If the job is ever open, I can tell you a guy who has the personality to do what you're talking about. I don't know how good a head coach he'd be from an x's and o's standpoint, although he might be great, but if you're talking about a guy who is really a character and would certainly become known in the media, it would be Brad Autry who was an assistant here. He is one funny dude, and he did a lot of coaching in practice while he was here. He might eventually be just what this program needs. He sort of got a raw deal when he was let go. I think he was the only single guy on the staff, which was probably why he was the one they cut. But I liked him.

I am just hoping we hold out until 2014 when Bruce Pearl's probation is over. The last time we hired a "disgraced" big time coach (Wimp) he did pretty darn well. You can hit a home run with a young assistant, but can just as easily strike out. I always like looking at someone who has been very successful at our level, but maybe didn't do that well when they moved up to the BCS level (Pelphrey?). I assume they just didn't "forget" how to coach.

That wouldn't exactly be moving up an assistant as we like to do, but it would allow the AD the luxury of not having to do a real search for a real coach. Boy, some of you guys really like to keep using the duds and has beens who have been on a staff here that wouldn't know what a real winning basketball program was if it hit'em in the face. I have no idea what kind of coach he is or was, but if he's been part of this long line of duds we've had for the past twenty years, he shouldn't even be considered.

Maybe, Brad wouldn't be a bad choice (See below). I'd like to see Wes Flanigan come home. Obviously, LRTrojan would want completely new blood and I can see that argument as well-

Brad Autry, who joined the Marquette University men's basketball staff in 2008, has been promoted to the position of assistant coach for the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.

"Coach Autry was the first person I hired and during our tenure together he has been an integral part of all we have done, and he is more than deserving of this promotion," head coach Buzz Williams said. "He brings a skill set that I genuinely appreciate and admire and because of his tenure here, someone that everyone in our organization already has a relationship with. As our success has brought about some staff changes, I am very excited for what Brad brings to our program with his added responsibilities."

I want a sec asst. tech has one and he will probably be got in another year. Why! Hell, he took a young team and started winning with a system that fits the kids.

Steve has kids that fit his system, so time to produce.

He doesn't Kerry. He'd like to play the inside out game, but he hasn't got the big strong bigs it takes to do it. Will ain't the guy, and evidently Javes isn't either.

I think the jury is still out on Javes, and maybe Will also. Will did a good job rebounding this year, and he should be much stronger next year with an off season where he can work with Coach Barron. Javes has physical talent. And with another season under his belt, could be a solid performer. I'm not writing any of them off yet.

The only thing I question is Javes' heart. You've got to be tough to be a good rebounder, and you've got to have some bulk to keep from being pushed around. I don't care how high you can jump, if you're pushed out from the basketball, you're not going to be a good rebounder.

Will has the heart, he just doesn't have the bulk. Javes can jump, and he doesn't have have the bulk. Don't know if either one can bulk up enough to bang around with the big boys. Our guys are just tall that's all.

Javes is pretty well put together. He just needs to learn to play instinctively, which hopefully experience will help. Will could certainly become stronger. He rebounded well this year. And James White can jump out of the gym. He can block shots and should improve all around as he matures. And if Gus's legs are back to full strength, he could certainly help.

He might be put together well, but wasn't a good rebounder. Don't know if he ever will.

I think some of that is experience. Learning where a shot is going to rebound if it's missed. I guess some is instinct and some acquired knowledge. Remember. He hasn't play a lot of basketball in his life. I think much of it has been here.
I'm not ready to give up on the kid at this point. Let's just hope he's able to play next season.

I still think he can be a good offensive player and shot blocker, but am doubtful as to him ever being a good rebounder. Plus, he tends to be foul prone. Hope I'm wrong about the rebounding. I like the kid.
