Flagrant 1 Fouls are a joke
There was just one in the Cinci game against Creighton, barely grazed the guy while making a turn. Go to the replay, waste time, stop the games for 10 minutes, its getting terrible. If they can call these fouls "flagrant" they need to change the rules. Its more than overkill. There were a couple called yesterday that were just dumb.

Stupidest thing they ever implemented. And, they get it wrong every time it seems.

We were coached to go up through the defenders chin in the post when we turned to the basket. I guess we would get thrown out of the game for it now. And most the time when you went through their chin, they would get called for the foul and you would be shooting 2 free throws.

One of the announcers kept saying Mcdermot should have gone low with the ball so he didn't get the foul... if this rule stays in place and you can't go up with the ball for risk of hitting someone with your elbow then it makes a defender's job extremely easy just to put their hands low so you can't pass out...

Rules has good intentions, but it's a terrible rule.

agree. if it's not malicious it shouldn't be a foul. You realize that a lot of passes and nearly all shots are attempted with elbows above shoulder level, there it going to be contact sometimes

What if you have a 6'10 guy with the ball and 6'2 guy trying to steal it, his head is at elbow level. You help to smack him in the head most of the time! It's overkill!

I strongly disagree. Because there is so much gray area. So much that is left vague in the definition of 'malicious'. We see problems with it all the time in the legal profession. What may be malicious to one person may not be to another.

Way too much is being reviewed. Slowing the game down and killing momentum. Maybe they should play the game without reviews, then let the refs review the game after it is over and let everyone know who won.

I agree...But shouldn't it at least be flagrant...Leave a little judgement in the refs hands...Right now it is so cut and dry that it is not evenly implemented.

Right. It might be a foul but shouldn't be flagrant. It has disrupted play and they are over-officious when you give them a mandate to "clean up play." At the very least, the rule needs to be tweaked if not overhauled or thrown out.

I understand the teaching of raising up and thus chance of catching someone's chin... this time though, if I recall correctly, the player with the ball looked directly at the defender and then swung his elbow at the defender's face. It was intentional and directed.
